hi i have searched for a solution but haven't found it yet so hopefully someone can help me or point me in the right direction - if have posted in the wrong place please let me know or move it to the right place

right i use a dell pc which is connected to a sky broadband router/modem (how do i know which one it is?)

my bf uses his ps3 downstairs and it is connected wirelessly to the internet.

when i use the pc, at the same time as he is playing his ps3 online - he loses signal and the ps3 doesn't function properly.

he said it is because i am connected hardline (first ive ever heard of this!) and that we would both be able to use the internet freely if we were both using wireless internet

so what i would like to know is do i need to buy a connection for my pc? i dont think my pc is wireless enabled - any ideas on how i find this out for defo?

thanks once again and i hope someone can help x

Hi there - you would probably be better posting in the main Techie forum rather than in this sticky, as they quite often get missed here.

There should be no difference in priority between wired and wireless, and unless your router is doing something fancy like QOS (which it won't be) then you should both get equal - remembering of course that you only have a certain amount of bandwidth, so if you are both downloading it is going to be slower than one.
You shouldn't need to buy anything, maybe just needs some config changes.

If he loses connection, it sounds more like an IP address conflict - have you seen any messages pop up like that?

I hope someone could help me with my wireless printer problems!
I recently installed a wireless printer (HP F4580) which worked fine for a while but now it seems to go offline quite often, even when I remove the 'printer offline' tick it does'nt seem to work unless I restart the computer a few times! this happens more for the desktop than the laptop.

I've tried using the help link provided by HP but no luck and continually get the message that the 'printer is disconnected'.

Hi, I'm not a very techie person but hoping someone can help. (please).
I recently got a new modem from virgin media & also have their wireless netgear router and using a belkin adaptor. When I tried to activate the new modem I was told by virgin that I didn't have windows on my computer but I did before this. I have tried everything to activate it but it just keeps coming up with 'windows is not currently managing your wireless connection' or 'see your internet provider'. I am using my daughters laptop now and tried to get wireless working on this but this is also asking for an activation key which I don't know. My own pc is quite old but was working fine with the old modem. Any ideas anyone? I don't feel like i'm getting anywhere with virgin & I cant understand what they are saying to me. TIA
Big thanks to all who contribute to the forums. Be lucky everyone and be safe!

    There are two problems

1 - Belkin is managing your wireless. Open the Belkin wireless manager and there should be a tickbox that says "let windows manage my wireless connections". Tick this and restart

2 - Activation key, you need to read through this guide and logon to your router. I believe netgear uses http://192.168.0.1 and admin / admin or admin / password for username and password. Then setup your wireless security or enter the wireless key

If you only changed the Virgin modem, you should not have to change any wireless settings on the Netgear router.

Did you power everything down when the modem was replaced?

You need to power up the modem first and wait for the LED's to settle, followed by the router and then if you have not changed the routers wireless encryption settings, the PC's should then connect.

OK guys here's one for you...

    I'm looking to buy a new router for my BT Broadband (I am finding the Home Hub V2 very unreliable of late), what I need is something that will connect the devices;

    Laptop PC (Wireless)
    Desktop PC (Wireless)
    PS3 (Wireless)
    Network Printer (Ethernet)
    WII (Wireless)
& Possibly a Hard Disk via USB for network storage purposes

Is there anything you guys & gals could recomend.... possible for under £50 (will push to more if required)

Thanks In Advance for any and all help/advice offered.
    Regards

Hello...well my HP c4780 wireless printer was working fine until i changed to AOL platinum and they changed some router settings. Now I cant get it to work...even with USB cable, though when I search for it,it seems to already be installed?

    help please.
  • Hi

Any easy and cheap ways to share an Epson DX4400 printer and external hard drive between the various computer, cable only, around the house?

I currently have the computers connected by cable to a Netgear router which has 5 ethernet ports and wi/fi, I would like the printer and h/d to be independent of a computer if possible.

Networking is not really my thing so any suggestions appreciated.
