Bargaining with Orange

  • So what you say above means that if I get pac code and change from orange to o2 calls are ported from orange to o2.

Ok, how about this for a hypothosis
Where I work only orange have a signal, so I could do the above and be able to receive a call supposedly on an o2 network, becuase orange would be porting it?

the incoming call would go to Orange first they would then forward it to O2 who would then try and connect to your phone which is out of O2 coverage so it would go to voicemail.

I cancelled my contract with 30 days notice on 21st Nov so it expires on 21st Dec. Despite having been an Orange customer for donkey's years they haven't tried to retain my business. Does anyone think they will contact me? I haven't signed up to someone else yet and I haven't requested a PAC code.

I don't reckon they will moni72. It seems to be luck of the draw as to which operator you get and what sort of mood they're in. I've been on ED50 for yonks and usually spend around £20 per month (although now I don't have free 0800 access any more that is liekly to change). I haven't decided what to do yet, but they are quite keen to lose people like me I think... :-(

Ring them back and ask for a PAC code and let us know what happens.
  • I;m in same position as you, contract runs out next week, phoned their retention team few days ago, told them I would like the V3. Guess what, that will cost me £150 on top of a 12 months contract. I said you can get that cheaper on PAYG without contract. Orange CS basically said 'tough'.

Thanks tOpCat. I am on YourPlan 120 so have been spending £25/month for the past 12 months. Will ask for a PAC code and let you know what happens - if anything!!
  • just tried to ring retentions, again i do not seem to be getting anywhere, in fact being directed to disconnect from orange if anything.

I rang them last week to ask for a payg sim to be sent as i wnted to come off my contract which ends next week, was not offered anything then.
rang them today after reading about the 500mins and 200 txts offer that some lucky people are getting. I even asked for my pac code as i had seen another deal, and was told that this would take 30 days, and advised to wait until my sim card came and ring them to activate the sim as my contract would be instantly disabled !!!.

so i think orange seem to want to lose loyal customers, been with them for about 9 years on contract. Would have preferred to stay with them as there signal is good at my place of work.

bit confused as what to do next.

From reading the threads in the newsgroup uk.telecom.mobile and also on the Orange mailing list, the feeling is that Orange are not interested in keeping customers unless they have a very large monthly spend. £25 or £50 per month may seem a high spend to us, but to Orange it appears not to be. Several 'old' loyal Orange customers have received very poor upgrade offers and have jumped ship.

Many of the extras that once made Orange well ahead of the other networks have been removed.

Take a look at O2 these days. They seem to be making an effort to improve their image and have some good offers on contract. I just got a super cashback deal via Mobileshop on O2 with lots of inclusive minutes and a free phone with 12 month cashback. Also, the O2 login is much more efficient than the lame duck that Orange run. On my O2 page I can see calls that I made yeaterday and my bill is always available to view. Logging into the Orange web site is at best, unpredictable.

Just my opinions. I have no connection with O2 or Mobileshop.

    YMMV.
  • I have been an orange customer for over 2 years and have 2 mobiles on my account and on average spend over £100 a month.

After talking to a number of people at CS to get a good deal which they never offered. At no stage was I offered the select 500. Eventually when I mentioned it they begrudgingly said yeah I could have it on one phone but not the other. There whole attitude stunk, when I complained to the executive office they called back saying tough. I said that it does not make good business sense to lose a customer who over the course of 12 months spends on average a £100 a month they said that they were a business and that there was no guarantee that my spend would continue at that rate. What a bunch of idiots. Even on the select 500 on both phones line rental aline they were guaranteed over £600 a year. What a bunch of idiots.

Just in the process of porting both numbers to O2.

Orange are getting dreadful. They were not like this a couple of years ago. Anyway O2 have been so helpful and polite.

Orange are terrible these days for offering exisiting customers retention deals, there customer service has gone way down hill and after reading some of the above posts I can well understand that some people are a little p'd at the fact there not being offered a good incentive to stay with Orange.

I personally would give you the advice that you should ditch this network and move to O2 if you want better deals, better retention deals and certainly better customer service - I would recommend O2 to anyone, they have always exceeded my expectations.
