Bargaining with Orange

Have been with Orange for years. Very happy with the network/service.
Every year I play the game of giving notice on the contract 30 days before it expires, then haggle with their retentions department who normally give me a good deal.
This year however, as apparently I've been a high spender, although my contract's not up till February, they've told me I can have an upgrade 3 months early- i.e. now.
My question is:
Will I get a better deal from the retentions department if I wait and hand in my notice 30 days prior to end of contract as previously - this way I can use the 'bargaining chip' of leaving the network. Or is the upgrade I could get now going to be just as good?
Anyone know the inner workings of Orange and who's able to give out which deal?
Regards

I would wait and go through the retentions dept, Orange phoned me and said I could upgrade early, I said I wanted the Samsung D600 and they said that will be £100 no thank you, A Month later I phoned them up and said I'm leaving you and they said what can we do to keep you, I wanted the D600 and NO UPGRADE FEE thats importent they gave it to me no questions asked. My experiance is wait I've all ways got what I've wanted going through the retentions dept. Good luck

i agree. wait until the end of your contract when it looks like you're slipping out of thier hands and then talk to retentions. you'll be in a stronger bargining position,

  • I think playing the waiting game might be the best plan. Thanks for your thoughts.
  • My experience last year was as follows:-
    1) Phoned 150 and tried to do a deal; was told to pay full price
    2) Genuinely phoned to cancel the contract. The key phrase was "I want my PAC code", which would allow me to take my number to another network.
    3) I was then made a much better offer, which I accepted.

I think the PAC code was the key (at the time) because that would cost Orange money each time I received a call (to forward it to my new network).

I've not tried it this year....
  • Hello,

I tried the I am leaving and want my pac code line on my Everyday 50 account in July and got absolutely no where what so ever.

What was funny was orange wanted £65 for an upgrade to 6020 where dial -a-phone did it for £35.

I guess they want me off my nice good deal contract and on a £50 month for "free" latest phone contract.

Anyone got anywhere with free upgrades on Everyday 50?

I think that you have misunderstood what happens when a number is ported to a different network operator!

It would not cost Orange anything after your number was ported, as any calls would simply be routed to the new network, NOT to Orange and then forwarded!

when you port to another network the network that issued the number 1st gain the incoming cost per min after the carrier you call from (BT, 1TEL ,Vodafone etc...)takes thier share, it costs the old network a fraction of that call profit per minute to forward the call via routing to the new/other network

Technically the calls do go to Orange still and they then forward them onto the new supplier, the original number is always 'owned' by the issuing network I think. On any port in future it will always be Orange who need to do the routing to whichever network you port to and from
