  • Blimey, what on earth are you all selling? I admit my stuff is mostly children's clothes, had to stop listing all my comics (about 70) as don't want to pay to list them now it's free P&P as it was hit and miss if I sold any, although I do have 7 listed in one auction to test whether they sell or not.

Maybe I'll have to sort out the kids toys and get some stuff listed to make way for all the new stuff Father Xmas has bought!!!!

Any tips on how to make hundreds of pounds on Ebay greatly appreciated!!!!!

There's been ups and downs to my first week back to Ebaying! One of my items went for a stonking £82! But then had a message from the bidder to say that they've made a mistake on the sizing and want to withdraw  I've offered the next highest bidder a second chance offer so hopefully they are still keen! That bid was for £80 so it's still looking good :j

I've sold quite a few bits that I couldn't get rid of a couple of months ago so I'm still very happy!

I only managed to list 5 items yesterday so I'm aiming for 15 tonight.

    Good luck all! :A

Have started putting together some listings but feeling really deflated as I have hundreds if not thousands of books, CDs, videos, magazines - the things that cannot be listed for free anymore : (

Am going to spend a few days listing on Amazon, Play etc. and then move onto the toys ready for the Xmas market.

It would help a great deal if my children actually went to sleep at a decent hour

    Hi guys!

Argh....I've really make a balls-up of a sale! I probably shouldn't ask your advice in this thread as it's a bit off-topic, but since you guys are my MSE Ebay posse, it is to you guys I turn...

I sold a board game on Ebay and advertised it in the US. The winner was in the States, and I weighed the game, along with the appropriate amount of packaging, and calculated the cost to be about £6, which is what I asked for in P&P. I took the wrapped package to the post office today, only for the woman behind the desk to tell me that it would cost £12.73 to send it to the States via airmail (as advertised).:eek::eek::eek::eek: I was gobsmacked and told her I'd checked it all out online and that is had said about £6. She weighed it again and it came to the same amount again. Or £6-something via surface mail.

I only had £10 on me as I was on my lunchbreak at work and I didn't have time (or my purse with me) to get any cash out, and I only finished work at 10 tonight. Today was the last day I said I would send it out anyway (I've been working a stupid number of unsociable hours lately), and there was a queue forming, so I had to make a quick decision as to whether to send it or not. I chose to send it as I'm going to be working again tomorrow with no chance of getting to the Post Office either. I don't really have anyone who could have done it for me, either. Surface mail takes 6-8 weeks, apparently.

Evidently, I've really messed up and I feel awful. Quite apart from I'm not sure how I got it so wrong (I never have been out before), the buyer e-mailed me saying how delighted he was at finding the game as his girlfriend is English and she would be pleased with it. He seems really nice, which makes it so much worse. I evidently need to contact him to explain the situation, and I'm wondering if I should make him some sort of gesture to apologise, like offering to refund some of the price of the game. He already e-mailed me to say thanks and how pleased his girlfriend will be, and I already e-mailed him back to say I'm sorry I didn't get the chance to post it on Sat (I normally aim to post within 24hours), and he said that he and his girlfriend 'don't mind when it gets there, so long as it gets there'. What do you guys think I should do? Should I offer a partial refund? And what percentage would you consider acceptable?

I feel so, so bad: I've never had the slightest problem before and now I've messed around a nice American guy trying to please his girlfriend. :o

    Thanks for your help!

Can I suggest you start the toys on Ebay ASAP, I've been selling off old things from my sons who are now all grown up and am doing very well. I think people are in a buying mood at the moment.

I've cut your post I hope that was OK?

I would hold off any refund at the moment as I think you potentially have a bigger issue. desite seller saying he was happy US buyers tend to put in a protective paypal claim before the 45 day time frame allowed on ebay 'just in case' and you actually rn the risk of having to refund for non delivery even before the 6-8 weeks quoted is up.

Paypal will unfortunately not care how you sent it, all they will care about is whether you cna prove buyer got it when a claim is opened and whilst there is a very good chance the game will get there in a few weeks, realistically in the couple of months run up to Christmas it is not unusual for parcels to take the full 6 -8 weeks.

Out of interest if you go to the RM online and ask for the last posting dates for Christmas to the US, surface mail was supposed to be sent by 20th October

Thanks soolin - I know about the postage dates thing as the woman told me yesterday when I was between a rock and a hard place. I'll email him and send him proof of postage with my most express apologies and see what he says. I was wondering whether he meant it as a Christmas present, but I get the impression that he didn't.

I'm running late for work so I'll get back in contact as soon as I've come back.

    Thanks for your help. x

  • Been listing something for ages and not had any bids (always had a few watchers), put it on for a BIN with Best Offer last night and it's sold this morning for the asking price - great, am happy it's sold. Going to sort out toys now and see what I can get done.

I was selling toys, admittedly some were quite old so collectable now and did very very well for my sons, I think after fees I took over £100 last week on stuff from the depths of their cupboards. Such a shame I have to hand it all over to them :rotfl:

I've even had buyers email to ask if I have more, or even ask about certain things. Most of the questions I don't understand at all and have to ask the boys but some of the toys from the 1990s appear to be worth silly money. However the stuff I was convinced would go well virtually all went unsold .
