  • Ok after lurking for some time as our middle DS started secondary !school last week I thought I'd lead by example and pluck up the courage to be the new girl as well. After subscribing to this thread for ever I thought I'd join in...

I am a bargain addict! I started shopping for Christmas 2012 in December 2011... But with three DS, friends, family and a DH to buy for you can never start early enough.

I try and do as much homemade as I can, this year I am doing:-

Home made hampers for the girls (eg mum, god mum, aunts, SIL,female friends) which consist of:
    - homemade felt purses/glasses cases/pencil cases personalised with fabric paint (really cheap to make and need minimal sewing skills)
-home made lip balm (presented in favour boxes I got for pennies form a car boot sale)
    - home made bath bombs ( packaged in little waxed bags I also got form car boot)
    - a little gift each from the various sales, eg bed socks, little soaps, note book etc.!

    For the men:
-Home made spicy nuts (easy peasy and tasts great plus super cheap)
-home made hotchoc spoons (bought plastic chocolate moulds from £1 shop, melt and fill with chocolate, balance teaspoon or lollipop stick in, package in cellophane bags with label explaining that you simply stir into hot milk for hot choc)

    For the families with children:
Baking hampers complete with mixing bowl (this acts as the hamper container), wooden spoons, fancy cake cases, sprinkles, cake mixes, recipe cards (just printed and laminated recipes) cookie cutters (recycled from all thrones we have, 2 or 3 tied with ribbon) . All bought firm the £1 shop or B&M bargains or in various supermarket sales. Literally less than £5 each.

    For two childfree adult couples:
Italian cooking hampers with colander(again this becomes the hamper box), wooden spoon, Italian herbs, dipping oil, bread mix. Again all bought when I see it in the sales or in £1 shops, wilkinsons, b&m. £5 per hamper.!

Breakfast hamper for single female friend:
Nice mug (25 p in charity shop!)
Tea and coffee sachets (stolen from hotel, meetings etc!)
Little pots of jam (£1 B&m bargains, free from hotel breakfasts!)
Hot choc sachets (on offer 4 for £1 tesco)
    Hot choc spoon(homemade)
    Homemade coaster!

I intend in wrapping all the hampers in cellophane and finishing them with home made labels, (labels £1 from the works!). I have collected various boxes and baskets over the year. Mainly from charity shops, car boots etc. you can get them for pennies.!

Xmas eve hampers for the kiddies will be: (I haven't started yet!)
    Jim jams
    Cuddly reindeer
    Reindeer food!
    Santa key
    DVD
    Christmas sweets
    Gingerbread man
    Santa stop here door hanger
    Christmassy bubble bath
    Snowman soup on new mug
    Petsonalized Christmas story
    Christmas baking set for Santa
    Christmas craft set

    I'd say I'm a bit excited....but I'd be lying
    I'M VERY EXCiTED!!!

  • Hi, always lurking around this board (especially around xmas time), we've done an xmas eve hamper for the last two years and I love the idea that a few of you have posted about doing crafty bits on christmas eve, just wondered what sort of crafty things you do on xmas eve? And what time you give your little ones their hampers?
Also wanted to ask for ideas for my boyfriend's hamper, it's an xmas eve hamper but he's not allowed to open it until xmas day (as it's not traditional for their family, unlike ours), I wanted to adapt it to things he could use on xmas day, so far I've got him a hulk onesie, I'm going to get him a dvd to go in it and also a mug but I'm stuck with other ideas, would love to hear any of yours.

    Thanks in advance :D
    THANK YOU ALL COMPETITON POSTERS!!

    Hi roosmummy

What a great idea doing one for your fella, how about a miniature of his favourite spirit and maybe a personalised glass, you can get these from studio or if you have a nice local shop/stall you can get a normal glass engraved for a few quid (I did this for DS christening). Novelty Christmas socks/t-shirt/jumper/tie? Box of his favourite chocs or special crisps/nuts. And finally perhaps a magazine for him to read?

See my post above for ideas for children's hamper, but wilkinsons do great Xmas craft sets (got mine in the sales last year) and poundland has cuddly Xmas toys as well as mugs for snowman soup.
