Yes that sounds like a good idea :xmassmile

If you think about it, the collapse probably did savers a real favour. The majority were saving for a hamper, and let's face it, 75% of a hamper is inedible.
Christmas is a time for giving, however, so why not organise a Harvest Festival type scheme? I'll start by offering a gross of tinned vine leaves.0 -
Hi Iamesbo. I'm one of the people who had savings over £50k in Icesave, Tuesday was an awful night.
I'm also fully in support of the people who were conned by Farepak, always have been and I think what happened to you and the others who were saving was totally disgusting. You should undoubtedly have been compensated by the government, especially one that derives its income from working people (ie: Trade unions). What amount did you lose?0 -
Fare pack was worse than ICESAVE IMO.
Because it was just out and out theft, no doubt.
ICESAVE was brought down in part by the media, just as northern rock.
Why was the boss of farepacks assets not frozen ?0 -
Yes, although it is hard to know completely Farepak looks like an utter conniving con. Icesave looks like a pyramid scheme on a grand scale, which is nearly a straight con but not quite as bad.0

never understood why ppl bother to put money away in things such as farepak.why bother cant ppk just put abit of money aside each month instead of having to give it to some group. cant they trust themselves not to spend it? sad that ppl get caught up in commercialism of xmas when they prob havnt set foot in a church since they were kids.
was there some sort of compensation body to cover this sort of thing? if not then you cant really compair with banks/savings. and the money that is involved0 -
I think both are bad, there is no point in trying to see which is worst. Some folks even get duped by the `you've won the Canadian lottery` scams, a con is still a con, no matter how apparent it may be to you.0

I didn't lose anything personally, I did not save with Farepak myself.
I was a HBOS shareholder at the time, I sold some after that, I should have sold the lot!!
Of course the irony of it all is that leglislatioin needed to be put in place to give
consumers more protection from companies, and companies more liability
for their mistakes, of course they did not happen as "it would be bad for the econemy".
So in the end the country gets it just deserts for licking the backside
of big business and allowing it to fleece consumers by behaving recklessly
with their money without any come back for those responsible.
