Well then don't accept it and put money elsewhere. Simple. As an aside, I think there are a couple of branches dotted around. There's one in London, and one in Leeds that I know of; they're not quite "internet only" although not as convenient as your local building society.
In other news, whilst their webpage was remarkably unresponsive over the weekend, the rest of their operation seemed responsive, shifting money around for me via service requests over the weekend. Judging by this, it really does look like it's an internet problem (probably caused by vast numbers of people starting to worry).
Maybe people will feel reassured by the governmental actions over the last couple of days and we won't see any more bank runs for a while. That would be nice.0 -

Well, there was one in December 2007.
Not far from the Derbyshire BS branch that got closed.0 -
Glad to see that it is business as usual.lectureral wrote: »I just logged in no problem, excepting it being a bit slow.
Yes, the website is rubbish. For me, I can cope with a rubbisj website if it means I get the rates I want.
I see no reason to suspect this bank will collapse any more than any other bank I could choose. That's why I'm keeping my money in there.
Felt much happier when I could log in over the weekend than I did on Friday when I couldn't. Have now taken screenshots of balances, etc. Everyone with money in an internet bank should do this.0 -
My modest savings are in ICICI and I'm keeping put, given the UK govt protection.
In addition to the important difference between ICICI UK being a UK bank vs Icesave being a foreign bank, people should also keep in mind that unlike Icelandic banks whose foreign business grew too big in size relative to their domestic business, the parent ICICI is mostly a domestic bank. There foreign exposure is small compared to their overall size.

A run or panic amongst depositors in UK is hence unlikely to lead to collapse of ICICI. What could affect it is a run in the India ... However given the clear message from indian govt & central bank it is very unlikely they will let the second largest indian bank to go to the wall.0 -
Shares in ICICI went up today 16% from Friday. Id say theres nothing to worry about.
Also when people are not logging on correctly, are you sure you are using the UK site because logging in via the main site does not work for uk accounts.0 -

I think what might be happening is that too many people are trying to log-in simultaneously. This is obviously slowing the site down a great deal as they try to cope with it.0 -
it has always stuggled with traffic .. usually if its really busy it wont load the stylesheet so all the fonts and layout looks odd...0

Re the discussion on the slow responses:-
My last post referred to their disclaimer on the web site this morning
"Dear Customer, Some of you may have experienced difficulties accessing our website on Friday evening (10th October, 2008). We have identified the cause to be related to certain internet service providers.........................."
It always bothers me - and I run a medium sized I T department - when my ears get assailed with bulls**t. If certain Internet service providers had problems, then those using the said ISPs would suffer when trying to connect to all web sites, I would have thought. Just why particular ISPs would pick on ICICI defeats me. When excuses that don't ring 100% appear, I begin to get a bit worried.
The fact is that their site is ALWAYS slow - at least compared with Halifax, Capital, Nationwide, B & B and Coventry plus just about any other site I use.
In this volatile market, you can not afford to be out of contact with your cash and I need to be able to move my money without technological blockages, as well as the extra day that ICICI seem to take to complete any transaction.
None of us really knows what is going to happen, who is rock solid and who isn't. So, until they can match other banks' Internet services, I am content for others to give them their business.
