Ooh - haven't checked in for ages - but lo and behold a chat about learning Welsh - which is my first language :)
Let me know if you need any help. We do use a lot of English words in between the Welsh, lol! For me it's usually because the Welsh version is longwinded and multi-syllabic and, if relating to something modern and technological, it just feels a bit contrived.

    Right back to work!

    Sparkly

Thanks i'm finding it sooo hard!

Smlsave - I have to go off and do mummy things now so can't chat, but come and talk to me about reusables. I've used them on both of mine and I'm a big fan (but not evangelical, you read some websites where people actually show eachother pictures of their stash )
    Updating soon...

  • I used reusables too, we just decided that was what we going to do from the start. It was OK although at first it wasn't perfect - some makes fit some babies better than others. I would definitely do it again though - and afterwards the nappies etc have quite a good resale value (no longer allowed on ebay but there is the used nappy company instead - http://www.usednappies.co.uk/ - I bought and sold items on there.)

Keep warm everyone! At least staying at home is cheap too so it works both ways!

I got on fine with the reusables, everything 'stayed in' this time, and I feel a lot better using them. They look so cute and fluffy on the line as well!

No snow here so everything is just normal. Earthlet has slept all through the night for a week now, and we seem to be in a routine that I am happy with. We have also been to playgroup a few times and he seems to like it. Because hes sleeping through and I'm getting my 8 hours, I feel a lot more positive about everything!

So time to get back to basics, reduce our costs and increase our income.

    Reduce outgoings
Electricity - try to speak to oh about it again, and encourage him to switch lights off.
Decorating - see if dad is up for a spot of diy. Use vouchers for new 'accessories'.
2 new chairs and footstool- get in January sales or get off ebay and recover.
Think about it before I buy - do I really need it? ( I haven't bought anything I didn't need, but ALMOST did today!)Can I get it cheaper?

    Income
sell sell sell on ebay -list the pile in the attic.
Work on new marketing strategy for ohs business
Work on setting up my own business

    To Consider :
    - If I can really do a Welsh GSCE - its taking a lot of time to learn!
    - Do I go back to work in May or September? I get paid about £4,000 extra (incl, cost of childcare) if I go back in May.

    Hello,

September - because you get good at 'it' and then it all changes as you go back to work and this is very disruptive for you. Also go back on reduced hours to ensure you are really fab at what you return to do rather than frazzled.

Chill, enjoy and relax. You are nearly there with the mortgage just enjoy your family, work will all still be there, chasing you and biting you on the bum. Oddly enough you will return to work and nothing will have changed but you will have and things that you would have previously got excited about (knickers in a twist - excited) you will feel quite differently about. I think a baby earthlet gives you perspective and work life balance. You will still pay off your mortgage, you will still tutor and you will still be quite victorious in the end.

Bye the way I used re-useable nappies with twins!!!! Double nappy for the evening so you get some peace and I used a disposable for night time to get a decent nights sleep. Its all about coping for me...

    Bye PP
P.s. your thread was the first I ever read and a true inspiration.
Debt Sept 2012 £140,000 end age 65.5 (maximum) four mortgages in total
    April 2016 £114,599.83 (3 mortgages now)
Nil debt for some many years now perhaps 8. Need to save for a tent for holiday this year but nil else.
Over paying about £500 per month but fancy £600 so will have to think of some very money saving techniques...
  • Hey earthgirl
sounds like good things happening all round with earthlet (sleep always helps!) :)
Tbh at where you are with your mortgage I too would say september - you never get this time again with your baby, plus wouldnt sept be more of a "new start" for the school yr rather than having to take over halfway thru?
my opinion anyway ... (then again if I could be a lady of leisure I would! :rotfl:)

good luck with the electricty talks with OH - I need to do the same, though he does get annoyed when I go round switching things down/off (heating especially!)

what are you thinking of setting up a business for? or will it be the tutoring? just looking at your figures , they are fantastic!! must now go read through the rest of your diary to remember how you did it and inspire myself! ;)

    Hi Earthgirl,

Glad things are going well. Could you not go back to work for 2 weeks before the summer holiday then get paid for the hols, several primary teachers I know here in England have done that but not sure if it could work the same for secondary in Wales?
Yesterday is today's memories, tomorrow is today's dreams :)
