:T:TAnyone got any tips on saving money when out on work dos?
I often (not always - see above lol!) tend to buy my own drinks as I'm not (usually!) a big drinker and I seem to drink 1 drink for everyone elses 2 or 3 drinks so getting into rounds unless there are others drinking slowly never really works for me! It means I can keep an eye on how much I drink too as I'm trying to loose weight!
Going out on weekday evenings can often be cheaper as many pubs will have meal deals and happy hours for longer than on friday or sat. I work for a uni so we tend to have a complete mix of people from skint undergrad/PhD students to Profs in the group so we often go to studenty pubs which can be lots cheaper for all.Mortgage free as of 12/08/20!

Hi
Yes I will def be buying my own drinks!
Had a good day so far, got stuff done at school, but no motivation to do work on small business now. AH well!
Looking forward to making OP tomorrow!15/5/12 Paid off Mortgage 1 (£220k) Bought Dream House:www: Dec 13 - Mortage 2 -£116,508. 15/7/18 Mortgage Free Again :j

Yesterday and today by internet banking I have overpaid:
£700 missing op for June
£1000 op for July
£6,700 from a maturing reg saver account
Total OP = £8,400 :j
I am so happy, my ops should really make a difference now!
I should be able to make another bonus OP at the end of the month I hope, although we must keep on track to do this; the low grocery spend and no takeaways should leave me with another surplus.
Didn't spend much at work do on Friday, and had a really good time. Races was an expensive day out yesterday, and I was so tired that I don't think I enjoyed it as much as normal. Still money wise I made profit on my bets!
Also enjoyed my free facial at Saks, have a free haircut and 5 day gym pass lined up for the holidays as well. I think I can got for most of the 6 weeks with free gym passes, so I won't have to join up!
Today I plan to have a nsd:
- clean
- free exercise of some sort
- eat allotment food (have a random corgette that I will have to be inventive with, potatos, salad, fruit)
-finish all small business tasks.
- celebrate my big op!15/5/12 Paid off Mortgage 1 (£220k) Bought Dream House:www: Dec 13 - Mortage 2 -£116,508. 15/7/18 Mortgage Free Again :j

That's fantastic - well done, you've OPed by more than 50% of my mortgage :rotfl:
Shows what I should have been doing I guess... but still hope to clear in October with a payment of £13400 if all goes to plan (which is tight) in terms of spend etc to then. However, DD is changing to secondary school (new uniform etc) and needs new bedroom furniture which OH has in mind to do in the summer holiday....
Enjoy your OP thrill!0 -
Wow well done on the Bumper OP! :T:TMortgage free as of 12/08/20!

Really I know I am wrong, and I should actually put it in a savings account, but my motivation is so much stronger when I am OPing. Plus if I can reduce the balance before we get a new deal, I should have some better offers!15/5/12 Paid off Mortgage 1 (£220k) Bought Dream House:www: Dec 13 - Mortage 2 -£116,508. 15/7/18 Mortgage Free Again :j

Well done, that's superb :jA positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort
