Your prioritising sounds like a sensible way of dealing with things. There are only so many hours in a day and there is little point in stressing over things that you simply do not have time to do.

Work is stressfull and horrible, but I’ll get there!

I am determined to rien back my spending to previous levels. I worry about redundancy – even though I should be ok in terms of numbers going, and I have a years salary saved as emergency! I just don’t want to give up on my five year mortgage free plan!

I am going to a womens business awards this week but I am not drinking as I’m driving, so that should be a quite cheap. I am on the ‘Diva’ table so I guess I’ll have to try and look presentable! I need to find a dress but I’m sure if I dig around in my wardbrobe I’ll have something suitable!:o

OH has organised for us both to go to a chinese with friends on Saturday which will be expensive, but I can’t exactly ask him to stay in and not go, so cuts will have to come in other areas!

He just doesn’t get an ‘entertainment’ budget  – I suppose his friends don’t either!

We are going to eat out of the freezer and allotment this week and next week, and I am going to try to get a cheaper internet deal so that will save us some cash. My mum send me a left over christmas present cheque that was a surprise, so I’m using that for a little pampering on Saturday:T !

If I get time I will go through Martins overhaul your finances article and see if I can find other things I could save on!

    Today Im going to:
Complete 2 tutorings (£50 for OP)
    Make quick omlette for tea
    Check emails and tidy house
Ask friend to lend me outfit for business awards if I can’t find one! – I will not buy!!

    Tomorrow:
    Finish outstanding school tasks
    1 tutoring
    Do 2 hours business work

    Friday:
Complete as much marking as possible at school.
    Take home extra marking.
    Network at business event.

    Weekend :
    Business Business Business!

Sounds like a positive attitude is having a positive effect! Keep at it, sometimes life just throws all sorts at you at once, you'll look back in a few years and reflect on it as (hopefully) the worse one.

Thank you, the people on this board are so kind and encouraging - just the people you want to be in contact with in these difficult economc times! Thanks for putting a smile on my face!

Friday at work didn't exactly go to plan - the exam class i inherited this week did their exam on Friday, and two didn't turn up to school till the afternoon. I can understand their hesitancy as their teaching has been a bit sparodic. I have let them do it on Monday and given lots of encouragement, so I have decided to leave most of the marking (well, all of the marking!!:D ) till Monday evening.

On a positive note had a meeting about me running yet another business/language course next year, so this leads me to believe I'm not in the firing line, I don't think many other people would be qualified/able to do it so aslong as I perform well I should be ok- phew!

Business awards were ok, and I did a bit of networking, and got myself invited to other networking events so it was a quite sucessful evening.

Networking as a marketing tool works out quite well. OH and I have had some very frank discussions lately about the business and how we have to roll my marketing budget back over the next few months and only do the essentials. My marking objective is to just build our brand and make sure people know about us for the future, not really about getting new customers NOW. The business strategy is not to spend money and survive!

With me keeping my jobs going, the business and household would be ok without many customers for a couple of years. So not a nice time, but still positives to find and make there.

So despite having marking, house cleaning and allotment tidying to do I am going to do lots of business work and then chill out this evening.

OH won £280 on horses - he is very well researched and hardly ever loses, so this paid for our meal out last night and has boosted our entertainment budget for next month. I also bought a new dress for £40 with some of the money :o but it was only £40, very nice and should do me for the whole year. I figured I deserved one as I worked out the last time I bought a dress that wasn't £1 from asda was in 2004!:rotfl:

Hi Earthgirl, I've just been catching up on your thread, you're doing great and very well done on your January OP. Like someone else said your comments about 'what did I used to spend my money on' really struck a chord with me too:rolleyes:

  • Well done to your OH then! Good that you got your night out "guilt free" in the end too - you need to have fun times as well as all the saving.

The converation regarding the future at work also sounds positive doesn't it. It would be strange them talking to you in those terms if there was a likelihood of you being made redundant so hopefully you're OK. I rather suspect at the moment that anyone who feels complacent about the stability of their employment is firmly in the minority.

Well I don't know where the week has gone! Madness!

Finally reduced my mountain of school work to an acceptable level, and the head thanked me for all the extra I am doing without pay!

So all I have to do is get ready for the week ahead at school, and work on the business this weekend.

I will try to get to the allotment this weekend, just to pick some veg, perhaps Sunday.

Hope you are all having a more exciting weekend!!
