I'm sure the act of lending the money and allowing your colleague to focus her mind on the issues rather than the immediate problem of food etc helped her a lot,
If you get the money back then that would be great, but otherwise as noted by others, consider it as an excellent example of what we should all aspire to do in helping others in need and hope that one day she'll do likewise remembering your kindness.
I hope the remainder of January returns a degree of normality to you and your OH, and best wishes with those plans.0 -
Hi,
Well the money has not been mentioned since so lets wait and see!!
I have been so busy lately with work and more work - i haven' had time to read or write any posts!
Anyway, with a block booking of £220 for tutoring and some banking 'aka' scouring my accounts and raiding the pound jar, I managed to piece together £1000 overpayment !!! It was hard and as I keep saying the next month will be leaner pickings again, but fingers crossed - I really don't want to fail in my challenge!
Tutoring tonight, two tommorow and got slow cooker bubling away so when I get in I can eat and get straight on with business work.
Take care all! EG x15/5/12 Paid off Mortgage 1 (£220k) Bought Dream House:www: Dec 13 - Mortage 2 -£116,508. 15/7/18 Mortgage Free Again :j

Keep up the great efforts, but if next month you slip back a little, consider what you are able to OP not what you haven't in reflecting on the situation.0

Well done with that OP Earthgirl - that's brilliant. Nice to start the new year on a real positive isn't it. :T

My £1000 overpayment just shows me how rubbish I was before at challenging myself to make my money work for me. Apart from the £325 tutoring money, and the £30 out of the pound jar, the rest was just sat in old accounts or in my current account. This is why I started my challenge - to actually challenge myself to use my money effectively and not just spend it away on nothing!
Anyway some more good news - another block booking of tutoring so £220, and another £75 raised by tutoring in the last few days. I am also expecting another small payment from my supermarket job, and have about £60 on quidco that I might cash in. So if I carry on earning and saving I will be heading for a full overpayment in Feb as well.
On the other hand, business is slowing for our small business, so OH may not be taking the same in drawings this year, so I have to take that into account. There is no chance (well theres always a small chance I suppose!) that we will have to close as our overheads are minumum, and we can survive on my wages for the next few years if necessary, without drawing anything.
Today I;m going to:
Income:
Finish school on time and go home to work on small business, which I plan to do all weekend.
Outgoings:
Will have a NSD.
Will make packed lunch for tomorrow as doing deliveries all morning.
Will take bottle of wine to hotel on business trip15/5/12 Paid off Mortgage 1 (£220k) Bought Dream House:www: Dec 13 - Mortage 2 -£116,508. 15/7/18 Mortgage Free Again :j

Sorry to hear economy is hitting your OH but your present knowledge of spending, bargains etc will give you a really strong hand in dealing with it. Hope things pick up in 2009.0 -
Your post really struck a chord with me EG - it's amazing how doing something like this makes you sit down and really take control of your finances, and doesn't it make you feel ludicrously proud of yourself for doing it! If I think back even a year I'm amazed at the differences from then to now, and frankly rather cross with myself for all the money I must have frittered away on needless nonsense over the years!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Thanks EH, yes I agree, my diary has made a monumental change to how I spend (or don't spend!) my money!
Friday didn't exactly go to plan. My boss went off sick and I am back in the same situation as I was before Christmas, covering extra stressful exam classes with extra marking, whilst acutually losing free planning and prep time! Head is 'going to see' if i can have some time back for doing all the extra stuff  I'm not mad at my boss, or the head really, life just seems a bit frustrating sometimes!!
I have also inherited a trainee teacher and another observer who are arriving Monday:eek: . They will just have to observe me running round like an idiot copying worksheets for a day or two!
So I guess in real terms, after losing my frees, my work load has just about doubled, I have everything to do in the house as OH is in too much pain, and extra work such as deliveries to do whilst OH can't drive.
So after worrying all Friday night about how I could possibly manage my week, I have decided to just do what I can - prioritse and do the three most important things at school, home, and for the small business, and just be happy that I can get that done instead of worrying about whats not done!
Also, I have got to look on the bright side, at least I have a secure job, and doing stuff thats normally a head of departments job will not be a bad move for my career.
My friend who's partner was told to 'go home' with out any notice or redundancy money should be getting what they are owed this weekend -the company have agreed, so thats good news :T !
So after calming down slightly I managed to get my marking done, do my delivery and OH came so we stayed over in a hotel as a treat - it was very nice and really cheap through late rooms.
It had free WIFI as well, so loads of business work done, and I am feeling very cheery now!
Hope everyone has had a good weekend and counting up their OPs!!15/5/12 Paid off Mortgage 1 (£220k) Bought Dream House:www: Dec 13 - Mortage 2 -£116,508. 15/7/18 Mortgage Free Again :j
