Slow Internet

For some reason my internet is slow this evening, often taking a fair few seconds to go from one page to another and on many, not loading up properly and not showing images.
This could just be a one off, but is there anything I can check to make sure it is just a one off and everything is working okay?
Windows XP SP3
Tx: 448kbps
Rx: 6816kbps
Tried Firefox and IE7
Thanks

Internet's slow after 7pm to about 10pm- that's just standard.
Would be more noticable with AOL though.0 -
That's interesting - I'm having the same problem with Virgin. Speed test is ok, service status is ok, but for the last week it's been very bad but only for an hour in the evening..................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)0 -
I never download from 5pm-11pm with AOL as it's slow, but not normal browsing. I literally can't clickthrough on some sites.
Credit crunch has hit the internet? :eek:0 -

Nope, "the internet" does not slow 7pm - 10pm, many providers (ISPs) do not provide enough backhaul (capacity) to cope with their customers demands at peak times, those which do generally impose low caps, or charge high prices. Bear in mind a large proportion of net traffic is to different time zones, why would they slow down when my kids start using youtube?
your sync speed of 6816 is pretty good, and should lead to an ip profile of 6000, so the 2.6k speed test is well below what you should expect

Just popped on to say I am having problems too, thought I was going mad! Really slow loading of pages all day today, images not loading at all. Facebook hasn't loaded for me today until just now and it is just text and no images whatsoever. It's just been a total nightmare and I am on aol as well. I have been using firefox and IE7 browsers.I live in my own little world, but it's ok as everyone knows me here

I always have highish sync speed, usually over 7000, but i'm only on 2mb (or pay for).
Some sites are working better than others, but a bit of a bizarre evening.0
