Councils had Money In Icesave... doh! Millions!

Interesting that one of those articles says that the councils have said they should be able to cope without affecting front line services.
Good to know that our 'poor' and 'struggling' councils, aren't actually poor or struggling.0 -
As soon as I read the title of the thread I thought, I bet our good old Herts county council is in there.
Council tax is already eye watering here, I pay £1780 per year for a modest 1960s 3 bed town house. Wonder what it will be come April.:A

Ahh but you have the luxury of not caring if the house's value falls :-) Remember when I agreed time to batten down the hatches - you've effectively saved tens of thousands... feeling smug or just large (can't be long?)?0 -

I'm personally open to changes to rubbish collection. We have a wheelie colleted fortnightly for non recyclables and a little box for recycling....I'd sway them in a heartbeat, and force councils to collet everything recylable...plastic bottes etc, regardless of what area we are in. I think forcing us to deal with the rubbish we create helps me think about what rubbish I create.
I used to live in the City of London Corporation they had daily collections of rubbish. They also used to round up stray Socialists in the streets under one of those funny old City laws and send them to Mongolia to be turned into genuine Socialist-skin yurts.0 -
Sorry this smacks of ineptitude from the over-paid council workers..
Those involved should be sacked and forced to live in one of the councils houses... really its stupid... couldnt write it...0 -
Very true Barnaby, our money is still tucked away as safe as it can be at the moment. And I have you guys to thank for that for reminding me I was being a plank even thinking about buying (even if it was a good price).
5 weeks to go before I pop, although burst is more likely... I'm the size of a house, I'd better watch it or the council will want another lot of council tax for me alone

I'm not too sure but I'm guessing the following calculation may put you in the ballpark -
Last years Council Tax + (around 7% of last years council tax) + (£28m/population of Hertfordshire)0 -

We live near the city, and have 11 rubbish collections a week. Plus recyling ones....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

but do they collect your stray socialists?:D0 -
How would we know? Our local MP is Frank "sacrificed to Ken" Dobson....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0
