Look LA are responsible for local issues, crime, housing, waste etc not health care, child care etc.
They may have project workers who may work in conjunction with these bodies, or will point you in the right direction but they are not funding or responsible for the provisions.

Does your wife by any chance work for a District or Borough Council in an area with a County Council?

Because County and Unitary Councils most certainly do provide a lot of the things you think Councils don't.

What do you think Social Services is? It's Childcare and Old People's Care and Disabled Care. Everything from Meals on Wheels to fostering orphans.
Hurrah, now I have more thankings than postings, cheers everyone!

You already get £60/week more than somebody in the private sector - and £150 in pension.

This is a bit of a fiction. It's largely because the low-paid jobs have been contracted out.

So while, say, the managers at a Council get less than the managers in the private sector, the private sector average includes the cleaners for both. Obviously that brings down the private sector average.

No, but it can buy you the type of misery you prefer.

Charities. Councils, Police & Fire Services have invested over £900 million in Icelandic banks.

Money lost, down drain, higher taxes & cuts in services on the way.

    The Crash continues.

This collapse of the credit bubble and the ensuing house price crash is taking twists and turns none of us could have foreseen.... and the curtains are only just opening on this production.

    :(

I am really ... feeling quite .... scared and alone ... about the coming months/years.

And don't forget lots of blubber.
I am a Mortgage Consultant and don't like to be told what I can and can't put in a signature so long as it's legal and truthful.
