Is the 9 inches thing correct?

I've never heard that, I thought they could put a fence so it was a hairs breath away from the boundary?

Hawthorn - I'm a volunteer dog socialiser for a shelter, and I think it's really great that you're thinking about volunteering. The shelter that I work at has kennel staff who do all the day-to-day feeding & cleaning stuff, and the volunteer's role is to give the dog the extra attention that it needs, as the kennel staff don't tend to have time to take the dogs out. I spend time with the dogs in their kennels, playing with them, stroking them, and training them, and generally trying to keep them calm, as the kennel can be a very frustrating environment. The volunteers also walk the dogs, and some of them do short-term fostering. I do around 4-5 hours a week, and I have a regular day so I can make plans around it. Many shelters also need people who can help in administration, finance or events, so I'm sure that whatever your skills, you'll be able to find a role that suits you!

Our local dog rescue is fostering only, so I put my name down for the RSPCA - they aren't taking on volunteers at the moment, but well give me a call when they do :T
Proud to be dealing with my debts :T

Don't throw away food challenge started 30/10/11 £4.45 wasted.

Hey cool, hope you enjoy it when you start!

I would advise though, if you havent heard from them in the next couple of months to give them another call - rescue organisations are oftn so busy that things can get put aside if they are not urgent, and I expect a gentle reminder would not be unwelcome!

Sorry to anyone who thought i was being funny....I dont mean to be but I do think I have that problem sometimes because of my wording.
  • No probs, we all do, its very difficult sometimes to pick up on the right meaning without seeing body language and hearing tone of voice etc!!
I just got the wrong end of the stick!! Sorry!

Never it would'nt even cross my mind to dump, get rid of any of our pets,if i had more room i would take more in,
these people make me so mad  it doesnt cost a lot to feed and look after them,i cant imagine how scared and sad the poor animals must feel when being dumped like this,my heart aches for them i just would never do it,as others have said would live on beans on toast too feed them
just not an excuse that were in a credit crunch
It's an honour having such a lovely family and being welsh, what more could a girl want :rotfl:
  • Deb68 - I know, and how does a dog really cost if its in good health.. a sack of cheap dogfood is around a tenner and would last most dogs a couple of months...

A lot of homeless people manage to keep dogs, and very often the dogs are in great condition, because their owners look after the dog before themselves - no mean feat when you are sleeping rough.

For people who are not working there is always the PDSA if the dog becomes ill, for those who are pet insurance is not prohibitively expensive in most cases.

However, I think a lot of people are jumping on the 'credit crunch' as an excuse to get rid of a dog they are bored with - such is modern society, unfortunately.

Sadly, the two oldies I found are still in rescue three months on - which is a shame, as they were so gently and sweet - still, at least they are together, and alive! :
