UPDATE OCTOBER 2010: Tesco has told us it's still getting customers asking about this two years after the offer ended. This promotion was included in the weekly email in 2008. Please always check the date of any post made on the forum before acting on it as we don't remove old discussions.
What's it about?
It's now possible to grab a flu jab in a supermarket for just £10, which is often over £20 cheaper than getting it done at a doctors' surgery (as if you're not entitled to it free, paying privately can cost anything from £17 to £35 depending on where you live).
Is it suitable for you?
First check whether a flu jab is right for you on the NHS website: Can you get it free?
Then check whether you're eligible to get one free from your surgery (although as surgeries have limited supplies, aimed at the most vulnerable, don't push trying to get a free one if you're told you're not eligible).
Even if you're not entitled to a free jab, but are able to pay for one privately, as stocks are prioritised there's no certainty you'll get one from your doctor.
Free flu jabs are available if you:
Paying for a flu jab
If you've checked for eligibility and whether it's suitable and still plan to have a jab then at Tesco and Asda it'll cost you a tenner (compared to anywhere between £17 and £35 from a private non-NHS clinic).
Though do check your local pharmacy to see whether it'll do it cheap too.

Anybody anymore information on free jabs for poultry workers - particularly this year?0

I've booked my flu jab this week at Superdrug...................for £9.95.:cool:10 Dec 2007 - Led Zeppelin - I was there. :j :cool2: I wear my 50 (gold/red/white) blood donations pin badge with pride. Give blood, save a life. 0

Had my free flu jab last week! You can also get a free flu jab if you work in a hospital - my daughter works as a ward assistant and had hers on MondayLoving freebies:coffee::rotfl:0
-
I am 61 and do not have any of the conditions on the list, my husband is 67 when he was booking his appointment in the doctors last week I said to the receptionist ' I am too young to qualify for the jab' and she said I could have it if I wanted it so it is worth asking at your doctors if you want it0
-
You are also entitled to a free flu jab if you are in receipt of a carer's allowance or are the main carer for an elderly or disabled person whose welfare may be at risk if you fall ill. I care for my Autistic teenage son and I have had the flu jab for the last two years. Parent carers are included in this group.0

As a self-employed person this is worth doing as I'll lose income if I get flu.
However, one day only at Asda is fairly useless and the local Sainsbury is only doing 2 saturdays, both of which I'm busy
Local Tescos are doing it
So 3 days for about 250,000 people in west london.... I wish the supermarkets had more days, it doesn't seem right to waste doctors' time with something so routine0 -
Anyone thinking of having a flu jab should have a look at this - including the video.

Free flu jab, no thanks, not for me.0 -
I've had the flu jab from my GP's surgery for the last two years - I ask my GP to write me a prescription for the jab which I collect from the chemist and then go back to the surgery's nurse to administer - costing me the price of an NHS prescription.
It's worth asking your surgery if they would do the same, saving you a few pounds off the supermarket price...0 -
I got mine at Tescos for £5. If you buy a pack of Actimel you get a voucher for a half price flu jab.
A small price to pay for not being ill all winter.0 -

Is the voucher only valid for flu jabs at Tescos?0
