Free/£10 Flu jabs

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:I'm now in my final year of medical school, and I'm surprised how many people actually go for the flu jab- it's made in spring, based on strains of flu from last winter, and how the scientists think it will alter over the course of the year before winter. If you're not elligible for the free jab, you would be much better to not spend the money on the jab, but instead consider ways of avoiding situations where you're likely to get infected-
If you take public transport to work, invest that money in a bike and/or warm clothing and either cycle or walk to and from work, aoviding all those bugs on the bus/train.
Swap your morning coffee for a homemade fruit smoothie, milkshake or juice. The extra vitamins should give your immunity a bit of a boost.poppy100 -
My husband is bi-polar and on a lot of medication, some of which affects his immune system. Our GP wrote to him and said he could have a free flu jab and I can have one too as I'm his primary carer. This is the first year we've been told about this even though he's been on medication for over 10 years. So worth checking with your GP first if you have a long-term medical condition, you might be able to get one free.0

I had my flub jab last week from Boots but never got any Advantage Points so went back today and they said they do not give points on flu jabs but if I have seen that somewhere on the internet, I should print it out and show it to them and they might justify giving me points then if they see it black on white. So I am going to print the first pages, you never know!Reclaimed thanks to this site:

I'd have to sleep at work! My journey is two hours door to door each way as it is
using public transport. I also teach international students who bring an exciting range of new bugs for me to catch from their home countries.... My fellow teachers and I are always ill in spite of our best efforts to stay healthy
I'm heading for a flu jab asap.0 -
Anyone can write anything on the internet, although some of the information is true its by its nature a biased article. The flu jab saves millions of lives in elderley and susceptible people. Read the info and take it all with a pinch of salt. Make your own decision. I will not be having the flu jab because I am young and otherwise healthy and I don't feel it is appropriate for me, however to discount having it on the basis of this article alone is wrong.
Yes- look what this Doctor practises- "natural" medicine it looks like- make up your own mind.0 -
Okay, update on getting Boots advantage points with flu jab: Last Monday they still classed a flu jab as a prescription so I didn't get any points, but it has been reclassified now and everyone should be getting points, so don't forget to ask, and if you had it already, go back with your receipt, I got mine added just now, and as work reimburses me for this, I basically got 60p worth of Boots points for free.

I only had my first flu jab last year (because I have MS) and then thought why hadn't I had one for the last 20-odd MS years as I felt so much better through the winter.
But, then again, maybe it was also not having to face a class of sneezing, coughing children - and adults! Maybe retirement is as good as a jab!Where now?0 -

Not round here you don't. My husband is immune surpressed. And I was told that unless I was registered as a carer I don't get one. When pressed then said I had to be claiming carers allowance.
But because I work I don't get a free one
husband is still immune surpressed and I am just as likely as anyone to get flu as I come in to contact with the public.
Lets hope don't catch flu as I can't see the receptionist from the GP's coming around to help my husband have a shower or cook his lunch for him.
Just because I work does not mean I am not a carer.

Hello
Does any of the Scottish supermarkets do the £10 flu jab? I'm not having much luck, my clinic told me to go to GP Plus, they charge £27, can I get it cheaper?
Can anyone else help?
Thanks0 -
You can usually get a free flu jab if you are diagnosed asthmatic, but some surgeries will only give it to you by default if you have a brown (preventative) inhaler. I think though that if you're willing to stand your ground, insist on discussing it with your GP etc, they will sometimes make an exception. It's worth a try.
I'm a teacher and I'm surrounded by teenagers full of new and exciting infections all day long. There's no way for me to avoid whatever's going around! Some years I get lucky, this year I've had a perma-cold for about four weeks.
I do have asthma (but only use a blue 'occasional' inhaler) and I'm prone to chest infections which aggravate the asthma: I'm going to take it up with my GP and see if I can persuade her around. 0
