me too. you just have to be the main carer, such that their welfare will suffer if you're ill (as in leaves no one to shop or cook for them, or assist them getting around -- or no one to help with personal care) whether or not you receive CA.carlislelass wrote: »I get one as OH`s carer although I don`t claim carer`s allowance.
this is my second year of getting it on these grounds.
I used to get it free at work -- air conditioned building, and they reckoned offering the jab was offset against the lower number of sick days. Then they had a poor uptake one year, and without warning withdrew it completely

we used to live in the Preston health authority -- and asthmatics only got if they had the brown inhaler (my son didn't qualify for years, then by magic one prescription meant he did).
we now live in the Wigan area, and were told the same thing...... so when DD phoned as she left her GP with a prescription for a brown inhaler a couple of weeks ago, I told her to go straight back in and ask for the 'flu shot -- which she got on Thursday.Cheryl0 -
Just phoned to book a flu jab at Tesco's to be told Tesco's are not doing this in Scotland. Has anyone else tried the other supermarkets in Scotland and had any luck?0

The flu jab saves millions of lives in elderley and susceptible people.
sorry where did you get that info from? it's not even possible to say whether that's true or not
I do know that this is true though.....
Mercury?
This is about mercury which we all know is a dangerous and poisonous material.
A lot of people are concerned about flu, rightly so, but there are also a growing number of people in the states concerned about the amount of mercury (thimerosal) in the inactive influenza vaccine?
It turns out that, at the very time American government health officials were warning of the influenza epidemic, they also were putting out unrelated warnings about the quantities of tuna and other fish that could be ingested safely in view of the high levels of mercury in their flesh.
The Environmental Protection Agency recommends ingesting no more than 0.1 micrograms of mercury, while the FDA in America recommends no more than 0.4 micrograms per kilogram per day. What this amounts to is a recommendation by the EPA and the FDA that women and small children eat no more than 12 ounces of tuna or other fish or shellfish per week. This is because, according to the EPA, "mercury consumed by a pregnant or nursing woman or by a young child can harm the developing brain and nervous system."
Yet the Advisory Committee for Immunization Practices has issued a warning, passed along by the CDC, that "all children aged 6 [months] to 23 months and pregnant women in their second and third trimester" receive the inactive influenza vaccine – which contains a full 25 micrograms of mercury – 250 times the limit the EPA recommends for tuna-lovers and regards as safe.
If EPA and FDA mercury limits are 0.1 and 0.4 micrograms, how can the CDC (Centers for Disease Control) believe the 25 micrograms contained in the influenza vaccine is not "excessive mercury"?
All sounds very fishy to me.
Mercury can cause a bewildering variety of problems.
In fact, one of the major criticisms of amalgam illness is that it is cited as the cause of so many things. But, like the parable of the blind men and the elephant, mercury can indeed cause many diseases. Modern physicians are not trained to find the root cause of a sick person's problems. They are trained to translate what they see into latin, look it up in their textbook, and apply a cookbook treatment. With a toxin that poisons fundamental metabolic processes different people will experience different symptoms to start off, depending on their own individual biochemistry. As the poisoning becomes more and more serious, further symptoms surface and the modern doctor adds more diagnoses - a patient who starts with depression might later be considered to have hypothyroidism, allergies and asthma in addition. But no thought is given to why one person should develop more and more "diseases," when a single diagnosis - chronic mercury poisoning - could account for them all.
Some of the "diseases" a modern physician might mistakenly misdiagnose chronic mercury poisoning as are:
Addison's disease, Gastritis, Allergies, Hypogonadism, Alzheimer's' disease, Hypothyroidism, Amylotrophic lateral sclerosis, Infertility, Ankylosing spondylitis, Insomnia, Anorexia nervosa, Irritable bowel syndrome, Anxiety, Juvenile arthritis, Asthma, Learning disabilities, Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, Lupus erythromatosus, Autoimmune disease, Manic depression, Bipolar disorder, Multiple chemical sensitivities, Borderline personality disorder, Multiple sclerosis, Bulimia, Myasthenia gravis, Candidiasis, Obsessive-compulsive disorder, Chronic fatigue, Panic attacks, Colitis, Parkinson's disease, Crohn's disease, Pervasive developmental disorder, Depression, Psychosis, Endocrine disorders, Rheumatoid arthritis, Environmental illness, Schizophrenia, Fibromyalgia, Sciatica, Food allergies, Sleep disorders, Yeast syndrome.
Sounds to me like another very useful poison if one would want to keep someone subdued, depressed and under control and otherwise messed up, as they are doing with Aspartame and fluoride.
All one has to do is create a flu scare, and doctors in so called civilized societies are telling people to come in and have a flu jab containing 250 times the recommended amount of a known poison, which does wonders for your mind.
Since the flu jab does very little for the flu, and there is more and more evidence that the flu jab does not work at all, It might be advisable to stick to Tuna.

The post about mercury is misleading. Flu jabs don't contain mercury metal. Some do contain ethyl mercury. Now, I realise this sounds like splitting hairs, but it is quite crucial. The chemical name for common table salt is sodium chloride. Sodium metal is a highly reactive metal that catches fire in contact with water and forms a highly corrosive solution of sodium hydroxide. Table salt on the other hand is pretty safe (unless you have really high blood pressure of course). Likewise, while being injected with pure liquid mercury would really be quite dangerous, ethyl mercury is quite safe.
The concerns that do exist relate exclusively to neurological development in children (unborn and very young) and not to adults. But it's been investigated; the Institute of Medicine in the US has looked at the issue and: "concluded that evidence does not support a causal association between thimerosal contained in vaccines and neuro-developmental disorders".
Vaccines are extensively tested. The benefit/risk balance is extremely high for ALL vaccines (i.e. the risk of a problem is tiny compared to the benefit of not suffering from the disease). If it weren't, no government would undergo extensive and expensive vaccination programs - it would be completely idiotic. The whole point of any vaccination program is that it saves money in the long run, because the vaccine is cheaper than treating lots of very ill patients.

I sometimes wonder whether these antivaccination groups deliberately misrepresent things, or whether they don't know that what they are writing is a load of rubbish (to put it politely). I would not be surprised either way. The level of scientific understanding in the general population is so low that it is very easy to pull the wool over their eyes and convince them of things that are totally wrong.0

For those who think "They would say that wouldn't they"
Here is
On the epidemiology of influenza an interesting paper for those still concerned about the safety of vaccines.
Dr Cannell writes Dr. Hope-Simpson, one of my heroes, was an English general practitioner who became famous in 1965 after he single-handedly discovered the cause of shingles. It was one of the greatest discoveries by a GP in modern medical history. After that he dedicated his life to studying influenza. I believe he correctly predicted that vitamin D plays a major role in preventing influenza epidemics although he didn't know it was vitamin D; he called it the "seasonal stimulus." After reading Hope-Simpson and researching the topic, I wrote a newsletter about my theory. If you talk to people who keep their levels around 50 ng/mL, they will tell you they just don't get respiratory infections very often and if they do, they are mild. I believe the reason is simple: vitamin D dramatically increases the amount of naturally occurring antibiotics (antimicrobial proteins) in your lung and respiratory tract. I have personally given 50,000 unit capsules of vitamin D to patients in early stages of what appears to be influenza (1,000 units/kg per day for three days-so a 120 pound person would take 50,000 units/day for three days and a 240 pound person would take 100,000 units/day for three days) and found it either stops their illness or ameliorates it. I find it has less effect on people with well-established respiratory infections and I don't understand why.
TABLE. Influenza Vaccine Manufacturers for the 2008-09 Influenza Season and Thiomersal content
remember The IOM review concluded that it was biologically plausible that thiomersal could cause a neurodevelopmental adverse outcome..... mercury exposure could present a risk, thiomersal should nevertheless be withdrawn from vaccines whenever possible, provided equally safe and efficacious thiomersal-free products were available. My weight loss following Doktor Dahlqvist' Dietary Program
