I booked my husband's flu jab and they asked if I wanted one, too. I said I didn't qualify (I'm 50), but they said "We have plenty this year, come in and have one"!
Actually, I have been offered one for the past 4 years when booking OH's."Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.0 -
I get one as OH`s carer although I don`t claim carer`s allowance.0

Anyone thinking of having a flu jab should have a look at this - including the video.

Free flu jab, no thanks, not for me.
Anyone can write anything on the internet, although some of the information is true its by its nature a biased article. The flu jab saves millions of lives in elderley and susceptible people. Read the info and take it all with a pinch of salt. Make your own decision. I will not be having the flu jab because I am young and otherwise healthy and I don't feel it is appropriate for me, however to discount having it on the basis of this article alone is wrong.0 -
I'll definitely be getting one! And I have to say I'm impressed you can get Tesco or Sainsbury's points on the jab too!
I'd advise anyone to ignore the scare tactics - flu jabs (especially in the UK) are incredibly highly regulated, and do not contain active flu viruses, (or mercury or formaldehyde as claimed in the daft video posted earlier), so are not going to give you flu! Maybe the American ones are full of rubbish, but ours are not!
If you get flu symptoms after you've had a jab, it's just because you waited too long to get the vaccine and caught a virus in the meantime. I'd rather have a little bit of discomfort for a few seconds than flu any day!
Now, if only they could invent a vaccine for man flu...0 -
Hi,
I recently had the jab myself. I'm not on the at risk list but my doctor was happy to prescribe the jab for me. I picked up the prescription from the local chemist (prescription charges of £7.10) and then went back to the doctor for the injection...
Cheers,
Alex/0 -
Yes, you can only redeem the voucher at Tesco's, just have to redeem it at the instore Pharmacy. How is easy it that for a fiver!! Cheaper and easier than trying to get on prescription.0

I'm now in my final year of medical school, and I'm surprised how many people actually go for the flu jab- it's made in spring, based on strains of flu from last winter, and how the scientists think it will alter over the course of the year before winter. If you're not elligible for the free jab, you would be much better to not spend the money on the jab, but instead consider ways of avoiding situations where you're likely to get infected-
If you take public transport to work, invest that money in a bike and/or warm clothing and either cycle or walk to and from work, aoviding all those bugs on the bus/train.
Swap your morning coffee for a homemade fruit smoothie, milkshake or juice. The extra vitamins should give your immunity a bit of a boost.0 -
My private flu jab only cost £5. I am eligible for a free one from my GP as I am 68, but will be away when I am due for it. My wife is not eligible so i take her to a nearby GP who only charges £5 for anyone not in his practice, so I had mine there. I would suggest anyone google for "£5 flu jab" for their area and see what comes up.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. I've just had my flu jab - free because I have asthma. I also had the (once only) pneumonia jab last year.
Anyone suffering from COPD, asthma or any other lung problem should also be offered free flu jabs along with other chronic illness sufferers.
Sorry if it's been posted previously but some employers give them to staff - local councils in particular - to customer facing staff, so they have some protection against possible epidemics & staff shortages due to illness. I can remember my mum having the jab pre-retirement in 1995 as she worked in the council libraries, and my current employer offer them to staff in contact with the public.0
