Its obvious from the above 3 banks that it could happen anywhere and yet your now blaming the person who suggested to you the bank in the first place then getting angry with someone who disagrees with your opinion

Which is why I kept just under £35,000 there.

The big difference is the UK banks were prevented from collapsing but Icesave was not.
  • Having read the posts made as I was posting the above, I take it back, there is no excuse for some of these posts and goodness knows why I thought any different.
  • The newswires are reporting that ING Direct are to aquire all UK deposits from Icelandic banks, I am sure the details will be out later

    What an irony.

I have a dormant ING Direct account with only £1 in it that I moved my money out of 18 months ago when they slashed rates on their original account 9 months or so after luring us in with a "big fat juicy worm of a rate"
  • Your comments are unacceptable and indicate you clearly have no concept of the position people have been put in by the Icesave collapse.

I did check in to Icesave carefully before I invested as did most investors in the bank and it appeared perfectly sound. For that very same reason I deliberately avoided ICICI.

Considering your apology for the way you've been coming across, it might just be better to let this thread die. Most people posting here are only responding to the first page.

ok .. i may be completly thick but
uk banks protected money up to 35k save
iceland bank not protected money at risk ....

so i know lets put my money in icesave because they are offering a high intrest rate , stuff the risks involved .

it sounds like you went for greed over security

Martin Lewis is on record saying he hopes it makes him a billionaire ...

he adds another important point in the same sentence tho:

'In fact I'd love it to make me a billionaire, providing it never compromises my ethics and recommendations or cost any users a penny!'

All's well that end well then...presumably now you can calm down and stop trying to apportion blame ?

Well why blame martin then. If you checked it out as you should and found it sound.
