Can I just say that people read the very bottom of the page. Martin makes it clear there that all tips are followed at your own risk and that tips do not constitute financial advise.
So your saying the self styled "Moneysaving Expert" doesn't give financial advice??? Do me a favour :rolleyes:0 -

Those who think that tomorrow will bring news that all Icesave savers will get their money back with no problems are totally deluding themselves.
Do you know, I did think this yesterday NGM. And this morning my delusional state reached new heights, as I actually thought I heard the chancellor announce this!
Off to get head read now....

Did you see Martin on CH4 last night? He was sitting next to a retired financial adviser who was facing losing something like 100K if iceland didn't pay out. And he had some kind of cripling desease!
It was bloody terrible.
On one side Martin. A rich, successful, young and in fine health man, who had told people about icesave.
Then this crippled man with speech problems who could lose all his money because icesave was going under.
I wonder what side CH4 was on when they picked the guests
Although I had little sympathy for him... If he was an ex FA he should have known better.
yeh was heavy going, Snow was giving Martin a real tough going over & then we had to try & decipher what the Icesave saver was trying to say, an ex-IFA?? thought they said he was an ex-civil servant.0 -

Well done Channel 4. This is the reality of the situation now caused by Martin and one or two other so called journalistic experts harping on about how you are losing 1% interest by leaving your money with boring old Nationwide etc He was right to highlight the atrocious rates offered by people like NatWest in some of their walk in high street accounts or even their online accounts versus what other reputable UK based competitors offered but not to in the same breath to consider people like Icesave or ICICI to being an equally valid way to improve your returns..
I invested with Icesave over 18 months ago and I read up extensively at the time and their parent was the oldest bank in Iceland (150 years old) and the country appeared very well run and I also thought I was investing in a bank totally covered by the UK Investors Compensation Scheme due to the deliberately misleading information from Icesave that they were regulated by the FSA etc. I have been very busy with other stuff in the last two months and I saw a couple of things about Icelandic banks a few weeks back but thought it couldn't be Icesave who I had read up on so carefully.
Note that I specifically decided agaist ICICI because of the very bad reputation of the governmental and banking regime of the parent company of that bank and the previous BCCI Indian bank collapse several years earlier. On one side Martin. A rich, successful, young and in fine health man, who had told people about icesave. Then this crippled man with speech problems who could lose all his money because icesave was going under.
I suppose this is on 4OD. I had better try and watch it. I can't wait to see Mr Lewis squirm.I wonder what side CH4 was on when they picked the guests

They were on the side of their audience viewing figures of course.;):cool:0 -
I used unacceptably vulgar language last night when I was very tired and I apologise for that.
I do feel I was provoked by people who were not potentially facing the poorhouse like I am and having no money left in one to two months time (I am currently not employed but not entitled to benefits) and for whom this was just seen as another opportunity to make the usual dismissive smug forum jibe. In particular the forum groupies who clearly consider Martin their hero got on my nerves.
I apologise for the unacceptable language used but not for getting cross with the people who were smug and tried to tell me it was all my own fault, tough etc, etc. That is no way to treat people in my situation with Icesave.0 -
if martin told you all that to improve your financial state you should all jump off a cliff or take a massive paracetemol overdose , and you did it and died would you blame martin, everyone knows that with anything to do with financial products there is an element of risk , whilst what may be a great deal its not suitable for everyone and secondly martin only gives suggestions he does not force anyone to take note and i trust that he feels bad for all of you who have or are about to lose money ,

Whatever Darling has promised I bet it takes months and meanwhile I am screwed. Also I bet we do lose interest during the long period until we are paid back. If we are paid back that is. I will believe it when I see it.
In theory its simple as Icesave knows exactly how much is in each account and the names and addresses and all they have to do is give the UK government a list but I bet the UK government demands proof you put your money there in the first place and as I do everything online and don't have paper bank statements I can see that creating lots of issues.0 -

Surely the fact that one bank is offering more interest on your savings then another bank should make you wonder why?, added to the fact the bank is in a different country must make your savings more vunerable?
They do say a little education is a dangerous thing
