  • Just spoke to Abbey, unfortunately no sign of any transfer. I transferred my money by BACS on Tues 7th Oct at 11.00 am. Nevertheless the guy from Abbey said he wouldn't be able to tell if there was a payment due. He then continued to say that perhaps I should consider one of their savings accounts. I do have an Abbey 50+ but its not paying a very good interest rate at the moment.

I also have Bradford and Bingley
    Birmingham and Midshires

Sadly I had quite a lot in Iceland too.

I am just opening up a 50+ account with the Coventry BS (fixed rate for a year at 6.25% and instant access) which I think is good.

Tomorrow will be an interesting day!

I think we should schedule a celebration and pity party.

I think Birmingham Midshires are part of HBOS group. However I'm opening an account with them this week too.

Had a BM account for a year or so and their website is the most user friendly of them all and always very good on the phone as well. Having said that £50k would be my limit with them.

    Was yours CHAPS or BACS?

The fact that people are seeing cash appearing suggests that tomorrow's payments will be via the BACS process. If this is the case, different banks will have different times when you will see the money and when you can draw upon it...
  • Assuming that everything goes well tomorrow and this forum is laid to rest, just thought I'd say a quick thank you to everyone (well not the silly s*d who laid into lovely, beardy Luke). You've been like an enormous comfy, security blanket for the last week and personnally I appreciate ANY humour at a time like this.

I'll be off to SPEND, blow this saving lark, it's just encouraging the idiots who're running our fine financial institutes.

    good luck tomorrow!
    CHAPS 8/10 received Halifax 20/10
    BACS 18/11 (£30) (actioned 19/11) received CHAPS Halifax 21/11
    BACS 24/11 (£50) (actioned 25/11) received Halifax 28/11

You know it's so good to be able to talk to others on here about this worry. I find it impossible to talk to people locally about it cos they look at you and say - well aren't you lucky that you've got money to invest!
(And we only have it cos my MIL died last year! - not really lucky)
