Postal Charges

I bought a small item off ebay £2.99 and read the sellers page who quoted the postage at £3.00, however when the invoice arrived the seller has doubled the postage. I have tried contacting her by email but she is not responding. I do not want the item if the postage has increased so much. What do I do now.

i would just pay the amount as per the ebay listing (im assuming paypal?)
  • thanks for your advice I have gone to pay the invoice and the seller has made it so that there is no option for sellers discount or any other alteration to the the invoice. So I have no alternative but to pay the inflated price.

  • Many people undercharge on postage. The new price may well be what it is.

£3 doesn't sound too cheap for a small item. OP, don't pay more than the originally stated price.

Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j

But if it is more than that stated on the auction then buyer needs not pay extra.

Do the rules not permit some room for manoeuvre?

No, not unless buyer opts for a different form of postage or a different agreement is negotiated otherwise all hell would break loose and no buyer would ever be quite sure that the postage stated was a real price or just one designed to pull in the buyers.

I'm sure we've all undercharged postage before now (I cringe when I thiink of one book I underestimated hugely out to the US) but we thump ourselves on our foreheads and learn from our mistakes.

  • Business sellers have to buck it up. But even I still get things wrong from time to time (so annoying), so for private sellers I expect it must be pretty common and judging by the amount of times you see £20 RM 2nd Class in listings it must be.

In 99% of cases, there is no need for the postage for UK items to ever exceed £8.00. The only exceptions I can think of is if an item was particularly big or very very very heavy and exceeded the courier requirements.
    Loving the dtd thread. x
