This is not quite true. We own the copyright of any post that we write. However we have probably agreed when we sign up that we give Martin permission to use our stuff, come to think of it we are doing that by the act of posting!Rex_Mundi wrote:.............When we post on this forum, part of the rules state that anything posted on the site is owned by the site (the copyright of any postings on the site is owned by the site). ............Torgwen..........

Fair comment. Has that term changed? I'm sure it used to be that all our postings came under the copyright ownership of the site. I just had to log out and click 'new registration' (only to read the terms, I didn't feel the need for an alias like some others) to clarify this one.
My previous post was only a brief outline of copyright rules. As with all laws, once a lawyer gets hold of it they can see a dozen different meanings in the words, but my post on this covers the very basics. How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

LOL, you've got me at it now, I've just read the Terms & Conditions!.
Regarding our posts they say:-Your content
7.1 Just so that you know, you own any copyright in the text that you post to our chat forums. However, when you post text, you expressly grant us a perpetual, unlimited free license to republish that text on our site and to redistribute/make available and/or sell that text in print or electronic form any where in the world as part of an edited compilation or otherwise.
It's actually important to re-read Terms & Conditions isn't it? For instance my bank changed my savings account to a current account and I hadn't read all the info so it was a surprise. Also if you've been with something a while the terms & conditions might have changed.Torgwen..........

That's the bit that got me. I'm sure when I joined a year ago the terms stated that the copyright to any posts were owned by the site. I was surprised to see the change when I looked a while ago. Can any of the team say whether these terms have been changed?
Fran............It is always important to read the terms of anything you sign up for. This is why I'm a bit confused now. I read right through the terms when I joined and I have always been under the impression that our posts were owned (by copyright) by this site. It looks like I've got to go back and re-read the terms now (fully). How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

I'm almost certain that we have always owned copyright on our own posts, I remember reading this a while back. The terms & conditions that now exist are dated November 2nd, so anything could have changed! It just made me think how I never re-read terms & conditions about anything unless something happens to cause me to.
So presumably if someone uses our posts they can be sued by the poster & by Martin.Torgwen..........

CD systems do have permission. There's a big difference between reproducing the tip with permission, attributing it and linking through to the site and just taking the content without attribution. The tip is different as it links to the main articles here. The articles themself are the core content.
As for terms changing. Yes they did about a year ago when we got the 'lawyers' who did a proper assessment. There was a note in the tip and in here about the changes, effectively its the same thing, the only difference is now its correct legalese before it wasn't
