Xbox 360 availability updates (merged)

Whilst I understand this thread is about availability, I do urge people to take a look at the backwards compatability list on the X-Box website. Something I didn't do before I got mine.
I put my old X-Box in a cupboard and may need to get it out again as games such as Burnout 4 won't work on the new one, and I'll be damned if I'm paying £45 for the 360 version.
Just thought it should be mentioned as it only really dawned on me today.0 -
I am willing to wait till after chrstmas for my 360...
One question though...
Where is best to place my pre-order? i.e. who has the biggest buying power? will I need to pre-order or will they hit the shops in abundance post christmas? Anyone got any info/guidance?
Thanks0 -

It depends on Microsoft on who will be allocated how much. The last I heard, Argos were the only ones who had managed to secure the most xbox360's percentage wise. Apparently Xbox360s are hitting Argos stores next week as well as other stores. For the other stores these may well be the pre-order ones. Argos does not seem to have that many xbox360's that were pre-ordered and when I went to my local store, they said they will be available for order online almost every week untl Christmas as they were getting more.0 -

Might be worth checking my local store then - Today I found they had two 64mb memory units and a wireless controller in stock!
Seems like they are selling out everywhere on a daily basis too0 -
i know someone who walked into Virgin today and picked on up there and then.
they said the staff took the rest of what was there0 -
Amazon e-mailed me and said they should be getting a few xboxs everyday if everything goes to plan
That's what one of my friends have been told but they seem to have a very long pre-order list.
I think it is best to check stores regularly and you might be lucky and get one!0 -

Wasn't going to get the wireless controller 'til after xmas (providing I get the comet core system on Tues!!) - but just tried my local Argos and had a controller and the memory - so reserved both just in case.
Many thanks,0 -

you also need xbox live before you can play the games on the list,I had to connect to it so my gf could play crash bandicoot twinsanity which is on the list.Appears you need emulation software downloaded onto your xbox 360 hard drive to play them but on the plus more games can be added to the list at a later date.0
