    wow you are super organised!

about the milk, is there any room on that allotment for a small cow? Perhaps a goat?

Or failing that, how old is the youngest milk monster? I'm still buying whole milk for mine, but watering it down to make semi skimmed. I am too tired to lug heavy bottles of milk home every day (even on the buggy..it's still hard work now I'm so pregnant), & so I like to think of it as milk concentrate ;)

My milk monester is 2 1/2 years old. This week i've been buying (like you suggest) full fat milk but adding water. She drinks so much of it that she's still getting all the fat she needs.

I noticed last week that she was eating more and drinking less milk. So i think that the milk was filling her up too much.
    Kind Regards

just to say we went away on holiday to centreparcs and took frozen stuff with us in a huge coolbag, we packed it tight with the freezer stuff then added a few blocks of those frozen thingys (mind has gone blank) then put the in the middle of the boot of the car and covered with a blanket and it stayed frozen the whole 3.5hrs.....

Really good to know. We can get our key between 3pm and 4pm so even if we leave at noon the food should be OK. I might need another cool bag though. I too can't think of the frozen blue things you put in with the food.

One thing to remember when you water down milk, is that you are also watering down the nutrients. When buying semi-skimmed milk the amount of calcium is equal to full fat milk, but the fat content is reduced.

I nanny for a three year old boy who enjoys his milk, but to the detriment of his meals. I have found that he enjoys his food far more when not given the opportunity to have milk, so if asking for a drink, I offer him watered down juice or water, not milk and he soon realised it was much more fun to eat his dinners then have a drink of milk. One thing I have noticed is how much he now enjoys eating eggs now, especially omelettes as he helps to whisk the eggs.

Well done for all you have achieved on your budget and I am so jealous you have an allotment, huge waiting lists here!

Another tip you may or may not know already, is that you can convert plain flour to self raising by adding some baking powder.

I have read that some where but haven't yet tried it as i was worried about getting it wrong. Do you know how much baking powder you have to add.
Would be handy to know on the days where you reach for the SR flour and discover there isn't any!!!

Can i ask is there any difference between a cool bag and cool box. I have found two cool bags in argos.
    http://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Search?storeId=10001&catalogId=1500001151&langId=-1&searchTerms=thermous+bag&Submit=GO+%3E

It's a pain to have to buy one but i guess we will make use of it again and it's better than buying the food there from the site shop

  • I think cool boxes have better insulation and therefor keep food frozen for longer. We've had our one for about 15 years so it's a good investment.

When I take cold or frozen food away I often use a litre box of orange juice frozen as a freezer block (the blue things) put it in the fridge when you arrive and it ends up as a yummy slush puppy drink for the kids the next day.

well i got a reduced cool box is wollies 44 litres so a good size and a cool bag from my neighbour which appears to be about the same size.

So I'm going to have to make a list of what to take. I thought i'd put the frozen stuff in the box and the chilled stuff in the cool bag.

I have emptied my pm box by mistake and i know there were some more requests for the allotment planting plans yesturday and this morning that i hadn't replied to - so please Pm me again and i'll send them :o
    Kind Regards
