Making brown rice more appetising

  • Try adding a knob of butter to it and stir it through before serving.

    You can use any oil really but I find butter gives it a slight sweetness and a silkier feel.
  • Fry one onion until soft in one tablespoon olive oil
    add 7 oz washed brown rice and stir for 2 to 3 minutes. Add 14 oz warm water in which has been melted a level teaspoon of marmite.
    simmer for 15 mins

    Add tin of sweetcorn, one red pepper, mushrooms and a tablespoon of soy sauce( not the strong sauce)
    Cook for an extra 25 mins until rice has absorbed the liquid

    I have also added strips of chicken to this recipe. It feeds 4

    I love brown rice mixed with fried onion,bacon bits and a few c,hopped walnuts, or for a veggie version mixed with fried onion and tomato.
