Martin, I do think it's better, but in terms of marks out of ten I would give the old one 4 and this one 6! The photo of you is definitely better and more imposing (as the owner of the site), but I really do not like the fonts and colouring. It looks like a cheap 1970's hippy postbox flyer printed on cheap paper in bad inks. As always, just a personal view.

Not keen on this, the colours simply don't blend with the current site colours. The head shot is much better though.

I'm not sure I like it either.

The pale blue letters don't look nice to me and the M,S,E are too big breaking the flow and making it look too busy.

I do think the site could do with a really simple, basic logo rather than having pic, name and sitename all squezed into the one place

Colours i quite like, however i think the important part is 'friendly readability' and i dont think it has it. I agree with, sra about the height of the M S E which diverts your reading glance to the yellow writing.

My advice, for what it is worth, is don't try too hard or over colourise/complicate the look. This site is all about content. A more simplistic/less busy look, with a constant colour scheme running through would work imho.

Lovely picture of Martin - the botox is obviously working! My 4 year old female friend thinks the lemon and pale blue colours are lovely! Ye have 10 colours in the header - makes it very noisy. Or do I need to adjust my set?

I would like to see only a small number of colours that blend well together.
I posted a few colour combining sites the other day.

I'd also like to see a logo that's so simple that it looks good when it's shrunk down. - There's a lot of goodwill towards this site and I'm sure a lot of people would like to put a little logo that links here on their page
