there's a limit on sleeping bags, i think the baby has to weigh 8lbs before you can use one. not sure, i had a fat baby so i could use one early on.

i'm looking for bigger ones now. my boots don't sell them. i bought one in asda months ago for £10 but they don't have any in stock now. mothercare and official grobag ones cost at least £20. my favourite came from the ace/studio catalogue, in a half price sale for around £7. i also had one from ebay that was a marks and spencers one but i don't know how much they'd charge for new ones. it's worth looking on ebay.

i couldn't resist a silly frog one from vertbaudet, it cost around £13 but i used a discount code. their others are more expensive but are very cute.

additionsdirect sell sleepsacks for £10 but i don't know if you need an account or pay postage http://www.additionsdirect.co.uk/additions/product.asp?brand=additions&extra=&mscs_sid=6RHTPTUET0EM9M5NC64FKRQ92DTG2D4D&fh_secondid=215507&fh_view_size=9&old_location=%2f%2fadditions%2fen_GB&sdg_fh_page=search.jsp&fh_usertype=additionsc1&fh_session=6RHTPTUET0EM9M5NC64FKRQ92DTG2D4D&fh_location=%2f%2fadditions%2fen_GB&fh_search=sleepsack&fh_eds=%c3%9f&fh_refview=search

Congrats Marco to you and to all the new parents. You have been given some great advice - I really have to agree with the advice of enjoy every minute; before you know it you will be potty training!

Like jellyhead, my little un had bad tummy upset and severe colic so we used Omneo Comfort. I always bought mine from Boots as it was a little cheaper there at the time.

I also used Dr Brown bottles which have a pump to remove any air from the bottle so the baby gets less wind and should be more comfortable. I wish we had found these sooner as the difference in our baby was immediate and dramatic; less crying, no constipation and just more settled overall. The bottles are more expensive than the norm but with Boots points not too bad - but to be honest they were worth every penny and more. Anyone I know who has used them can't praise them enough, especially if your baby suffers from excess gas, spitting up etc

    http://www.boots.com/shop/product_details.jsp?productid=1068060&classificationid=1039882&slmRefer=000

When making the bottles, or if we were going out, I would prepare a flask of fresh boiled water. If I needed a quick bottle making or a drop of water to sterilise something, the water was ready at the right temp. As the Omneo wasn't available premixed I would premeasure 8 oz and keep it in one of those small circular take away tubs - so I carried my flask, empty bottle and formula and could make and serve a bottle in seconds.

    Enjoy!

  • karnam why dont you just buy the fleece zip up sleepsuits it is probably cheaper most are under a tenner full price so even cheaper marked down!!(bhs, woolworths m&s,boots, mothercare, adams, next etc)my babies always wore vest, sleepsuit and fleece sleepsuit on top they were nice and warm and slept very well, also be very careful not to fall asleep on the sofa with them because i have read so many stories in the paper of sudden infant death syndrome which has happened on the sofa or of parents dropping them whilst asleep, so i would not recommend falling asleep whilst rocking a baby like some have suggested if you are tired my view is always put the baby down even if it is crying it is not worth the risk. i never slept with the babies either i was too worried that they might suffocate and once you start that it is very hard to get them back in their own crib. always get expert advice from your hv if you are unsure. :xmassign:

The fleece sleepsuits are just £4 in primark & I find them very versatile, excellent for in the car as you can unzip them easily in the car & leave them open & just zip them up when transferring to/from, also good under a blanket in the pram when it isn't cold enough for a snowsuit, and I have used one over a vest at night when it's been very very cold.

Thanks folks this thread has been brill so far,

Claudie, we have been using Dr Brown bottles from birth as they were a hand me down from my 16 month old nephew. We find them good also no colic so far or constipation and sickness is improving a little each day I think lol.

We like the idea of the sleeping bags also but can't really see the value of the 0-1 month size as she will out grow it so quickly maybe wait till she is a little older yet.

We do fancy getting one of these bucket bath type things as DD loves the water at bath time, can't wait to get her in the swimming pool.

marco for now i would stick to little cardigans and sleepsuits with scratch mitts at night to keep warm as she will grow quick out of 0-1, the fleece suits are very warm for over the next few months in bed (maybe for christmas i would probably buy 3-6 mths then depends which shop as size vary)and when you get them you just buy a size up because even if it is hanging long at the feet she will soon grow, you can roll her sleeves up and you will get your moneys worth this way whilst she is not walking and tripping over them it really doesnt matter it is better than be too small, when the toes get near top go up size or cut the toes out!! :xmassmile glad to hear you are ok! ps: they are very easy to wash and dry being fleece!!

in the swimming pool i recommend an inflatable baby seat ring ie you put her legs through the holes and it has a head rest i got one at boots and the girls loved it they feel very secure i had baby armbands too but never used them as they loved the baby seat cost£10 perhaps christmas again!!!! :xmassmile please check with health visitor you may find they say wait until after immunisations before going swimming best to be safe than sorry!the bucket seat i too was tempted by that but in the end didnt get one and managed without and the other week i saw a story in the paper were a baby got stuck in one and the firebrigade had to cut him out his legs were lodged in it so im not sure id want one!!be careful but im sure theres lots of happy stories with them too!!!!!!
  • Hi
I can remember when my son came home from hospital he would not sleep at night and on the 3rd night had to put him another room so that at least 1 of us could get some sleep. I said to my MIL next day Oh he was so good he only woke 5 times last night! I really felt that we were getting some where!

It really is hard work at first, but no matter how many times you want to throw them out the window that first smile makes it worthwhile - even if it was at themselves in a mirror!!

Both my babies have been very sicky (reflux) my daughter had powders in her milk - but not this young.

Muslin squares are invaluable - put them under their head to sleep on you when cuddling etc. Both mine imprinted on mussies!

A routine at bedtime will help eventually.

    Congratulations and enjoy
