Completely off topic now, sorry to teh original poster:o
I use Avent bottles but Tommee Tippee teats with the little bobbles on, supposed to be the nearest to Mums breast (my nipples do not look like that thank you very much! Don't use the TT bottles, the measurements wear off really quickly). I introduced a bottle of formual as the final feed before bed at 2 weeks old & introduced a lunchtime bottle 2 weeks ago, I started with the slowest flow teats & have gradually increased the flow by ricking the teats with a pin every couple of weeks. Breast feeding nearly killed me for the first month (I would rather have gone through labour) but it hasn't hurt at all since I got over the inital stage. Maybe I am just lucky?

robodan wrote:Anyone have any ideas if its ok to use brita filtered water for baby's bottles?
Not being funny but does anyone read the instructions on the side of the tin? It says on mine not to use artificially softened water (which filtered water is). It also points out that you make the bottles half an hour after boiling the water although you can leave it and add the powder later apparently but we do as the instructions say and warm when needed.
As for bringing the milk back, this could be wind. I give my baby half his bottle then wind him, then the rest and wind again. I always did this and he hardly ever spits up.:heart2:I have a child with autism.:heart2:0 -
we used Brita filtered water for ours, mostly because being in the south the water is crap to start with so the filter was more for us than the baby. We just used to put the water in the bottles as soon as it boiled. We only ever added the baby powder when we actually wanted to feed him, just used one of the Avent/Mothercare milk powder dispensers if we were out and made it there and then.
On the subject of the being sick i'm sure there are a couple of formulas being sold that are meant to reduce sickness in some babies, I know some friends of ours had trouble with their baby until they swicthed. Not saying it's right in all circumstnces but one thing to bear in mind(likewise the baby may just not like the particular formula you have, although they are all pretty similar reading the sides the way they are made up in terms of ingredients and mixes does vary, may be worth trying the small pre packed formula cartons rather than buying a big pack whilst you investigate)0 -

:rotfl: nope I'm not Italian, I'm chinese! haha! But yes it means Dawn in latin. We call her Rory for short..... anyways moving away from soppy first child moment...
I might have a go with the Tommee Tippe teats then (esp as Boots is triples points for 10 more days - oh yes!) although to be honest I only give the bottle when it's uninconvient to breast feed ie im in public or uncomfortable company. breast feeding is still utter pain but its only been 3 weeks and you know... i went through labour without an epidural, i can go through this for a few months!!
i have found though that forumla milk seems to have some sort of sedative in, my Rory sleeps for HOURS after some formula.:A Boots Tart :A0 -
The Baby Whisperer was a god send to me when Miss Mop was tiny - try thebabywhisperer.com
You may have to buy or borrow the book to understand some of the abbreviations on the website, but I'd say its worth it.
Just remember to enjoy your tiny tot as she wont be little forever (I know everyone says that, but its soooo true).Threadhead0 -

The Baby Whisperer is the source of many of my problems from 12 weeks onwards, I'd bin my copy if I wasn't an MSE'er & trying to flog it on Amazon! Different strokes for different folks and all that but I'd never recommend it!
To everyone who uses filtered water for their milk, you do realize that by filtering you are seriously reducing the natural calcium in the water don't you?
? I know to us it doesn't taste great but babies don't have much of a concept of this, especially when the water is flavoured with milk! Hard water is the best possible water! I've actually seen people in the supermarket buying both water filter cartridges & bottled water with "added calcium". Doh!!! Post Natal Depression is the worst part of giving birth:p

We are pretty much in a Baby Whisperer '3-hour EASY' routine and I think the book is fab.0

Thats a pity. At least you knew where the problems were, and I take it you've been able to work towards sorting them out?Threadhead0 -
Glad you haven't taken offence Threadhead, I realized afterwards that my post was a little aggressive:o I have heard many many positive reports of the Baby Whisperer, which was why I tried that approach, unfortunately didn't work at all for me. I've reverted back to instinct! Can't say it's foolproof though, Spud still isn't back to sleeping through the night again:rolleyes: Thats the problem with a firstborn, so many people offering well intentioned conflicting advice, and all you have to fall back on in the end is your untested gut feeling:eek:. Sometimes you just don't know which way to turn, and there's just no one correct answer
