Another Tesco Massive Price Increase

  • This time I'm inclined to believe them (to some extent.) With imported goods going up through hefty currency floatation, prices will follow suit. Buy British is no real alternative when it comes to long-term contracts with Eurozone suppliers or where oranges and lemons, French wines, Edam cheese, rice etc. are concerned.

    ---

Tesco can't bully so much on the Continent. Continental suppliers have the option of being bullied by Aldi, Lidl, Metro, and Carrefour instead.

I'd agree to a very small extent. The high percentage of these increases far outstrip the fall in the £. They were fast enough to use the oil excuse and it is now at $35 per barrel compared with well over $135 last July. Packaging prices have crashed paper, board, steel, plastics etc. For example Polythene resin (bags, shrink film etc) was £1300 per tonne now £600.

The level of supermarket price increases is blatant profiteering.

And its when you add all these things together, it really winds me up when people come on here making excuses for them raising prices by huge amounts.

My theory is that tesco is trying to improve the health of the nation - by increasing prices to a level we can't afford anything.

    Lets look at today:
Tomatoes up again to 38p (17%)
Cucumber up to 68p (Half) which is double what it was 2 weeks ago
    Mushrooms up by around 40%

but inflation is down....maybe in the land where people are buying plasma TV's - certainly not in the land of the student (I can now not afford to shop and by students standards my outgoings are tiny as I don't drink or go out)

Whatever happened to their big fuss about buying fruit and veg etc as part of healthy eating.
You certainly cant afford salad anymore, cucumbers as stated 68p, iceberg lettuce £1.09, Rocha pears £1.37 per kilo, cant remember price before christmas but was much lower.
