Things are already looking a whole lot more positive then! As long as you are working together for this, you will get through it.....it will, of course, be tough, but you will get there.

Keep posting - you will get loads of ideas and support from this site if you want!

    Hi

Just been reading through your post quickly so forgive me if I get anything wrong.

You say you are paying about 26/27% with Barclaycard, I have a Barclaycard and have a special rate of 6.9% Balance Transfer rate, this does not have a transfer fee and is for the life of the Balance, I've had this offer for about 2 years or more and have transferred about 3 balances to it over the last year or so. Can you check with Barclaycard and see if they have this offer on yours, then maybe you could transfer the £900 to another card and do a Balance Transfer to Barclaycard. I also have an M&S &More card, this is 7.9% for 2 years, I have £1,000 on my Capital One card, this is 0% for a while (can't remember how long now) and my A&L Card is going to revert to 17.9% I think in November so I'm trying to pay more off of that first.

I would transfer more of my debt to Barclaycard but am up to my limit (I currently owe £17,000 on my CC's - I have 5 at the moment).

Like you my finances are separate from my bf's, we live together, have 3 children aged 4, 3 and 5 months, my debts have come about because when I've had no money I've used my cards for things like clothes, birthday and Xmas presents, food, nappies etc, basically anything that I haven't had the money for I've put on my cards.

The interest alone on all my cards is about £100 a month, I sell on Ebay as a Business and am also selling my girls old clothes and stuff I don't need anymore, this is the only money I get apart from CTC and Child Benefit. My bf pays all the bills, I just pay the Endowment premium, my Life Insurance and my National Insurance the rest goes to my credit cards, it's not a lot at the moment, people are not buying as much at the moment as no one has much money so things I sell are going for less than they would normally.

I have got two sealed moneyboxes and am saving 1p's and 2p's in one and 5p's, 10p's and £2 coins in the other, when they are full I will change them up and pay whatever I have saved off my credit cards.

My bf is going to inherit £50,000 next year (probably Dec latest) and has said he will loan me the money to pay off my debts and I can pay him back but I'm hoping to pay a good chunk of it off before then.

Better stop there as it's getting long. I hope you and your husband get things sorted soon.

About the dog insurance, we switched ours to Healthy Pets, and saved a fortune. We now only pay £20 per month to cover 2 dogs and a cat, which is a huge reduction on our former 'cover for life' policies. Depending on any pre-existing conditions and the level of cover you want/need, it might be worth your while getting a quote from them too.

I am sure you would get there eventually paying things off the way you are going but I think you would really feel a weight taken off your mind by doing a DMP. It should also allow you to make bigger inroads if interest can be stopped on some (or all) debts.

I think you will end up having more money to spend than before. CCCS give you budgets for everything - make sure you give yourself a decent amount. Anything you don't spend can be saved up incase of emergencys. Allow money for everything, add some extra and then some more. You will feel free to start living again rather than existing.

    Good Luck with it all.

Tizzy - could you put up a link for me about that pet insurance? If you dont mind? One dog is 6 one is 4 and a pedigree and the brat is 3..........may live to see 4!!

TMD - thank you for your long post and I am glad your bf will help you. It feels wierd talking about a joint account with hubby as I have always been independant.

DF - I saw the budgets and was very impressed! I did allow a wee bit extra here and there and could live on more than toast and a meal a day! (I have to make a joke of this or i would just cry)

I do have a sealed tin actually, it has 50p pieces in it and the odd £2 coin. really dont want to open it right now its too pretty!I'd forgotten all about that, its in a drawer at work......................hmm......................

I had a quick look on line and the co-op do online banking so might try them depending on what payplan says. (Keep wanting to call them pay pal!)

I wish I had thought of this months ago................THANK YOU!! xxx

    Hi 1 step,
Just wanted to cheer you on and say I'm glad you can now look forward to more than toast!
Talking of cheap eats, have you looked at Weezl's threads? She is trying to eat healthily for 50p a day, and doing very well on it too. There are links in the first post of the thread I've linked you to, which go back to her earlier epics, and she has very helpfully linked to lots of recipes too.
