Hi all. I hope some of you will have seen this jacket on the news today or recently in the papers.
http://www.mailonsunday.co.uk/news/article-1067139/The-jacket-die-TK-Maxx-takes-hooded-coat-concealed-2-5-inch-blade-shelves.html
Although it's been removed from sale now. I am staggered it was ever offered for sale in the first place.
I also hope that you think twice before purchasing anything from TKmax in at least the near future.
I may appear to be overly sensitive to this and I apologies if thats how it appears. I have my own personal reasons.
I emailed my thoughts to customerservice@tkmaxx.com today, a copy posted below.
Dear Sirs.
I have been a regular customer of TKMax over recent years buying directly in
stores mainly for my children and for family members, including vouchers as
presents at Christmas and birthdays. I was appalled to hear on the news that
you had for sale a jacket containing a knife apparently hidden inside.
So disgusted am I to hear this almost unbelievable story I am driven to
write this email. I am seething with anger at the fact that YOU as a company
encourage the youth of the country to carry a knife as a fashion item when
every responsible organization would in fact discourage this. I see this as
an arrogant stamp of approval by your company for KIDS to carry knives in
public when out. Possibly leading to death, harm or prosecution.
What further angers me is the fact no spokesperson has appeared in person or
made reasonable comment with any explanation as to why your company thought
this was an acceptable product to sell in the UK or announce that the
company buyer of this product has not been sacked. Unbelievable!
The seriousness of this and the complete disregard for the safety of your
customers and non customers alike, let alone the complete bad taste of this
product in today's climate of knife crimes including murder and other
deaths, has forced me into the decision NEVER to shop at a TKMax shop or
subsidiary ever again.
I hope you lose more in custom than you made from such a foul, disgusting
product.
I will certainly be encouraging all close and distant family and friends to
boycott your stores in the future.
I, and I hope many other customers will not be falling for the fairy story
that your buyers had no knowledge of the product your were buying to sell to
the British public. Even though you are aware that most of your products
will be purchased by or for children and teenagers.
If there is an award for stupidest most irresponsible clothing company in
the UK then your chief buyers have just secured that award.
Maybe you could arrange a visit for your buyers and others responsible for
this product being sold to visit the Accident and Emergency departments of
the cities in which you ply your disgusting trade. Friday or Saturday night
would be a good choice.
Sincerely
xxxxx xxxxxxxxx

How is this a shop but don't drop?Illegitimi non carborundum.0

From the story you posted
Today the store confirmed it had removed the Swiss-branded coats which came with a penknife attached by a chain as soon as the firm became aware of the issue
So as soon as they discovered the issue they removed the offending items from sale.
What more do you want them to do?
Yes they should have had more rigorous checks and maybe they will now.
My OH and I regularly shop in TK and neither of us are teenagers .
I will happily still shop there.
Why are you worried that no spokesperson has appeared in person?
Where?
On your doorstep.
A mistake, now corrected.0 -
It was a penknife, for heavens sake - they sell them all over the place. I think you are going way over the top.0

A penknife can slit someone's throat though and we don't know what experience the OP has of knife crime!! We live in a land where carrying a knife as a fashion acessory is far too common and if it's in your pocket it's all too easy to use it or have it used against you - I'm glad TKM sorted it out quickly
If you think you are too small to make a difference, try getting in bed with a mosquito!

You don't know what experience I have of knife crime either.
I think the OP is going over the top in his e-mail to TK Maxx - they are not encouraging anything, and did what a responsible retailer would when the problem was uncovered.
"Disgusting trade" - they are a legitimate retail outlet, not heroin dealers!0 -
Also this is whats considered a camping survival coat, for hikers etc.. the knife is taken as a necessary thing when camping etc.. the reporter had done a good job of fueling the fire by showing the knife in its pocket with the blade open. a utility knife such as the swiss army knife would not be carried in such a fashion.Duct tape is like the force. It has a light side, a dark side, and it holds the world together."
FEB challenge £128/£270 balance £142
£2 saving club £1400 -
I just reread the email you sent to them
I pity the poor sod who has to reply to your unwarranted diatribe.0 -
To be honest, I think this is just a case of someone/them being a bit stupid and not thinking, rather than "[encouraging the youth] of the country to carry a knife". Plus they've stopped selling the jacket which is all they could do now it's happened. I do think it's just one of those things that was unfortunate, but it's over now and people should let it go.
Plus before you say anything about how I don't understand what you have been through, I do. My friend and several people in and around the town I am from have been fatally stabbed so to me it's not a reason and I honestly think a lot of the things included in your email are unnecessary; not the complaint itself, as everyone has the right to voice their opinion, but the way in which you have expressed yourself.£100 for Christmas challenge: £3/£100 so far!0 -
They made a mistake, give them a break, they've removed the item in question, some of the top names in the land still make mistakes.
I'll continue to shop at TK Max.Click here for Martins (MSE) advice on who to contact with Debt Issues - YOU HAVE NO REASON TO USE A FEE PAYING DEBT MANAGEMENT COMPANY- THEY CANNOT DO ANYMORE FOR YOU THAN THOSE LISTED IN MY LINK ABOVE.
All information given by myself is offered informally and without prejudice - if in doubt seek help from a qualified and insured professional0 -
Other than pointing out that your anger appears to be wholeheartedly misdirected, I would like to also note that your wording makes death seem like the least disturbing of the three possible outcomes listed, and that you have misspelled TKMAXX in all but the email address.0
