    yes - a good post.

jammed into a tight cabin and sitting next to a drunken, loud-mouthed abusive idiot doesn't get the holiday/business trip off to a good start.

not much fun for cabin crew, either.

that said, I've noticed a change in attitude amongst some check-in staff since the security clamp-down.

customer service has, in some of the cases I've witnessed, started to morph into high-handedness - backed up by the veiled threat of 'we can always off-load you, so just you behave'.

and this change isn't limited to the budget airlines.

last yr I flew to franfurt to meet a work commitment. my co. booked me on a BA flight. the check-in staff could easily have worn swastika uniform. a guy in front had to insist - calmly - on a 'please and thank you', whereby security was called.

I backed up the guy's version of events and expressed disgust at the staff's behaviour. after a 5 min stand-off the guy was alowed through, muttering something about a written complaint. I hope he made one.

I sympathise with any staff that has to endure abuse/intimidation, but -as always- there's 2 sides to every coin.

There are 2 sides to every story and I do agree that some airport staff let power go their heads at times and lose all manners.

However it doesn't excuse the way that some people think they can behave and get away with it

Speaking as a railway employee, and having been subject to abuse, verbal and physical, I still say there are two sides to every story. I have sniped at a passenger who didnt deserve it, due to the abuse of a previous passenger, it happens. On brave days I have returned to apologise to aforementioned snipee, on non brave days have simply hidden away till they left the train. I have also been given verbal abuse when trying to help passengers, people boarding wrong train ect. I have given wrong information to passengers, same outcome on the brave/ non brave reaction from me. I,m human, some people forget that. If trains stopped allowing crackers onboard a lot of the trains would run empty of both passengers and staff.
    Only kidding.
    No I,m not!

so what you are saying is you are allowed to take explosives onto trains and ferries without question (car full even) and without being security checked.
But not onto another form of passenger transport even though it is screened, xrayed, checked and double checked.
Trains aren't highly pressurised containers travelling at 500mph at 39,000 feet over the North Atlantic, where it's minus 60 degrees outside and the nearest safe refuge is over 700 miles away. An explosion on a plane would be far more serious than on any other mode of transport.

Crackers are banned items - why is irrelevant.
Trying to argue your way into getting them onboard is futile.
Taking your frustration out on a staff member who is trying to make sure the law is complied with is churlish.
Dumping her crackers on their counter is juvenile in the extreme - the last resort of an idiot. The airline staff are not there to dispose of other people's crap.

Airline staff put up with enough abuse day in - day out. The last thing they would actually want to do is to pick a fight with anyone.

I personally feel that it's stressful enough getting stuffed in an aluminium tube with hundreds of other stressed people. If you can't abide by the law and behave yourself for just a few hours, then get the **** off the plane.

    Well done Easyjet.

Sorry, I think the worlds gone mad. A box of Christmas crackers for godssake, a lippy thats half used, a pair of tweezers. I think this kind of nonsense has terrorists laughing up there yashmacs or whatever they wear (no offence intended to anyone)If anyone enforces this kind of rubbish they must be bonkers. I know measures have to be taken but show some common sense for gawds sake.

Its terrorists that make the world go mad teedy23. Unfortunately there's a 6'5" tall bonkers Saudi bloke sitting in a cave somewhere around Afghanistan who will look for ways to turn planes into lethal weapons. And it wasn't just September 11, think of Richard Reid, who nearly blew up a plane with a box of matches and his shoelaces, or the guys with the liquids that recently went to trial... For their predecessors there was Lockerbie, Entebbe, the list goes on. Sickos in the world will look for any way to turn something innocent and good into a weapon, they will always seek out the soft target where they can extract maximum impact. That's how they think and its a sick space that their minds inhabit. Unfortunately for the rest of us we live with the consequences. I'd much rather fly safely and be inconvenienced than go back to the days where you could get on and off planes (in some countries anyway) like buses but not know what the people around me had on their person.

Who holds the Aces in their hand, airline or passenger?

the staff hold the aces without doubt, wether its security or airline staff and they know it, although they are not looking for fights as such, the "staff" will fire the first shot so to speak and see how far the passenger wants to push it by winding them up.

its not always stroppy, rude, morons who deserve what they get, although most of the time watching idiots get put in their place is a welcome sight.

innocent problems and complaints can soon get out of hand becasue the "staff" are in the mood for confrontation

christmas crackers are classed as dangerous goods when carried on an aircraft, they always have been, nothing to do with increased security & terrorism.

Just a bit of info from airline employee for those that questioned why the crackers were not allowed.

Commercial airlines are governed by organisations such as ICAO & IATA (international civil aviation organisation & International air transport association)

Dangerous goods can include many everyday items which are capable of posing a risk when transported by air, subject to characteristics such as vibration, pressure & temperature.

Many items are banned completely, some items can be carried in hold only, some on person or in cabin only.
Such details can usually be found on the back of paper ticket or on airline website & at all check in desks.

There are many items onboard an aircraft which are also classed as dangerous goods but are required (essential) for airworthiness, ie portable oxygen cylinders.

Crackers however are allowed to be carried in the hold, as long as they are in original packaging with no sign of tamper, maximum one box per passenger containing no more than 12 crackers. they cannot be brought into the passenger cabin.
Party poppers cannot be carried at all.

I agree the passenger be offloaded for for deciding the rules didn't apply to her & for being disruptive.
