This could be a bit misleading....? I spend £500 pcm in Tesco for 2 adults 2 children which sounds like a lot compared to most but...

I could spend less - but think it would be a false economy. We don't eat out/go out often, so instead will treat ourselves to favourite food/drink items. If we had a meal out once a week we might save £10 off the shopping bill but spend £60 in a restaurant. We also have family and friends to stay on a regular basis and want to provide good hospitality for them.

As a family of 5, I aim for £250/month. I do follow the OS Grocery Challenge but it is very difficult ... before hand we used to spend over £400.

We spend about £650 but there are 9 of us and 3 cats. That is 2 adults and 7 kids but 3 of the kids eat more than I do so more like 5 adults and 4 kids.

Tend to spend £500 ish, we have 1 18 monther and 1 on the way, but we do shop at waitrose. That includes a few beers for me and the missues will have a very rare glass of red (no harm in the odd glass while pregnant despite what people say.).

We don't go out at all 9we have people over instead), have no vices, so we don't mind spending a bit more on 'posh' grub, so you could say that also includes our socialising.

    !!!!!! is all that about?
  • We buy our groceries from a variety of sources, always buy the offers unless value is cheaper. Bookers is good for the occasional shop. Most of all we never have any waste. If anything is spare on the very odd occasion, the chickens get it.

The chickens are by the way in my bad books at the moment because they are laying about 1 egg a fortnight each at the moment.
    Loving the dtd thread. x

We spend between £180 and £200 a month. It's me, OH, DD1 (aged 4) and DD2 (aged 2.) That includes food, cleaning stuff, packed lunches for OH and DD1, and eco nappies, bags and wipes for DD2.

I know I could cut it down, since we got rid of the car I get the shopping delivered so although I go for cheap delivery slots, that makes up a portion of the total amount.

I don't drink, OH does but that comes out of the 'entertainment' budget, as do cigarettes (yuk - trying to get him to stop before baby is born but that's another story LOL!)

Me and both DDs are veggie, OH isn't but pretty much eats whatever I plonk in front of him, though recently he has been buying the odd pack of chicken breasts, so we use enough for his meal then freeze the rest. I make all our dinners.

Something I keep meaning to do more is cooking in bulk then freezing for later. Recently have been making my own biscuits, bun cakes (as DD2 calls them :) ), the odd pudding, although generally for puddings we have yogurt or fruit.

I do have a handful of things I'm fussy about - the eco nappies (used to use washables but DD2 very sensitive and kept getting nappy rash), organic milk and cordials without artifical sweeteners. Did used to insist on fruit juices not from concentrate, but trying to cut costs I now buy the cheap concentrated juices (usually apple) and dilute down with water.

Hoping next to refine my shopping orders by doing more planning ahead and mayeb going for twice-monthly deliveries, cutting delivery costs and stocking up on fresh stuff inbetween.
