we spend about 120 per week on me dh dd 14 and ds 16 a dog and cat. this does include cleanin stuff which is stardrops bleach ect not mr muscle or anything like that. i smoke and dh drinks a couple of times a week. we usually go out as a family on a saturday night and we can usually spend about 60. dh goes out fridays about 25 and sunday dinnertime about another 25. i go to bingo about ab]nother 10 with mates on a tuesday and kids have 15 each a week pocket money not including their clothes or trips to pictures ect.
now ive just written all this down i can see that we do spend a lot of cash and i could cut it down a bit but we only have one life and its there to spend to enjoy yourself. i owe 8000 on my mortgage and zero on credit cards. we both work and dh has a lot of overtime so thats how we afford it but there were times in the past we were pretty skint when the kids were younger so really had to cut back a lot so now we have it i spend when i like more or less.
im also a saver as well, my mo used to say spend a bit and save a bit and thats what i do. x0 -
I honestly wouldn't be able to say. I tend to shop in dribs and drabs so never really know the figure at the end of the month.
This month I'm allowing myself a budget of 300€ and keeping ALL the receipts to see if I can stick to it.
This is for 2 adults and 1 child. (nappies, wipes etc to be included in the budget.... hopefully!)

Usually spend about £60 - £80 per week on main supermarket shop and perhaps another £20 on top ups and the odd take away. We don't buy clothes very often. It should reduce though as DS1 has gone to uni and DD1 has moved abroad so now there is just the 3 of us.0

we spend well less that £300 for a month 2 adults, a 2 year old, + 2 cats we have a max budget of £250, we do use a lot of smart price stuff eg tinned toms rice pasta never buy ready meals and dont go crazy buying things like bscuits and crisps as these are expensive and you dont acctully miss them when you dont have them but if their in the kitchen you find yourself grazing on the midafternoon regardless of if your hungry or not. i bulk buy thing like loo rolls as they are cheaper this way (it helps we have a very big bathroom to store them in).twins on board0

We usually spend between £30-£50 a week on the main shop, maybe £20ish over the week on extras. That usually doesnt include clothes as we buy in sales but the boys get given so much we rarely need to buy.
Thats for 2 adults a 6 year old and a 1 year old.Bringing up 2 handsome boys and 1 gorgeous girl the MSE way!Joseph born 19th December 2001Matthew born 8th August 2007Tara born 23rd January 20110 -

I used to spend £120 on me alone. Now me and my fella have a place together we spend about £150 on both of us as we have learnt to cook and don't live on ding-ding dinners and takeaways.
He does two small grocery shops a month and I buy fruit/veg from greengrocers, meat from local butchers etc.
Every couple of months we go to Costco and bulk buy washing powder, rice, pasta and such like.DEBT FREE! Sep '08/£9,800 in Oct '06 :beer:0 -
Before I found some sence I was spending about £900 on supermarket shops - going there every two days for stuff - it was only when I looked at my bank statement and added it all up did it dawn on me how much we were spending - appalled by the amount I completely changed the way I shop - doing it all on line and only buying what I need as all meals are planned - I now spend about £400 to £500 per month all in and that's for 2 adults, 2 kids (including packed lunches etc), 4 cats and 1 dog - I also make all my meals fresh and don't buy any ready meals or forzen foods (except for scampi) and I buy organic meat too which does bulk out the price
I am really pleased with my shopping expenses and not only have I saved money but I also don't have any food waste as I only get what is needed for that week instead of buying in excess and either having to eat it because it's going off or throwing it away as it's not been used and it's gone off0 -
The secret to a cheap food shop is not to take the children or the husband with you
Other way round for me. If I take DP and DS thenI get out of there quicker, so don't browse and buy things I don't really need.
We spend around £450 a month for two adults and a very hungry 3 1/2 year old (eats as much as we do!). This includes about £100 on wine - can't blame DS for this one, though much cheaper than the regular nights out we used to have pre-DS. This poll has made me determined to try harder and get down to under £300, like everyone else.
That's peer pressure for you!:rotfl:0
