I sent my application off at the end of July, start of Auguest and received my contract this morning. I'll get paid for the first time next Friday hopefully. Good thing is, it'll be backdated and I'll get £120 next Friday. :)

    Hi all

    The most frustrating experience ever!

My daughter sent her application off in the first week of September (this after about 5 requests for an application form!) and has heard nothing. I know there are major problems (about 162,000 applications that haven't been processed).

I phoned on Monday and was told her application wasn't on the system yet "but we have received it". Not quite sure how they would know this. They're supposed to have a database showing what was received and when so applicants who have applied within 28 days of their course starting don't miss out, but they can't tell me anything about her application, when it might be in the system, when it might be processed or when she might get some money. The poor kid is doing two jobs at the moment to cover her bus and train fares to college. Not that working will hurt her, but she's so tired.

Has anyone else's child applied for EMA, and how long did it take to get sorted, or are you still waiting to hear?

There are a few press articles about how many people have had their applications delayed. Here is one http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/education/7637687.stm
  • I was going to explain why, but it seems the person above has already said it :)

Hopefully I'll get my £120 soon enough.

received a letter from ema yesterday re-ds ema application 'your details have been recorded' please see your enclosed documents returned (bank statements etc..)

as for students being off sick i have read that it's up to college/school discretion not the ema and you're more likely not to get it because ema is supposed to be towards travel and other costs etc.... bit unfair if you're off a day and get penalised for the full week another shambles if you ask me
  • Still waiting.....

When they do get around to processing her application there will be problems - husband is self employed. We sent his SA302 with her application - but not the official Inland Revenue one. According to our accountant, you only get one of those if the IR disagree with her assessment, which they haven't done for the past three years. I'm willing to bet the EMA people will have a problem with this

you can try but it will probably be no use. i would suggest re-filling in your application and send by recorded delivery. otherwise you will have to wait untill they return your form and you will be put to the bottom again

I applied at the end of August for my sons, I did not have a bank statement for him, and it would take 5 days to get one so I photocopied his debit card and sent that with his application - gave it 3 weeks and then rang them, they said it was taking at least 5 weeks to process and his wasn't on the system yet, I have contacted my MP as I am really disgusted - I am a Civil servant and to rpovide this level of service is totally unacceptable, I suggest you all contact your MPS and then they will become aware of what a poor service is being offered to their constituents.
    Titch :)
