I applied for mine mid-August. I had my application sent back at the end of September, saying I hadn't included a bank statement. I was under the impression that as I had received EMA before and my bank details hadn't changed it wasn't required. Apparently it is. So I've sent it back and have apparently gone to the bottom of the pile again. So it could well be 10 weeks from applying to getting the money for me  I'm looking forward to the big fat back payment though.

The first time I applied for EMA (year before last) it took FOUR DAYS for my application to be processed

Thats what my daughter is doing, can't wait for it to come through so she can pay me back.

I went into college today to have a word about it (I am there on Mondays) and they brought up her file, she should get paid for every week since she started as shes not had any days off but they are showing that she has had two payments not one. Since her account has not had any activity on it for ages I got a mini statement which shows just one payment going in, they said get in touch with EMA again but when I did this they said its down to the college, Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!

eurgh. Sent mine off middle of september after 8 weeks of asking for an application form and I didnt include a bank staement either as I also under the impression you only needed one if it was your first year of ema. I havent heard anything yet.
  • Hi,

I know how you all feel, I remember waiting for my payment, it's so frustrating, hope everything gets sorted soon.

  • i'm still waiting on my adult learning grant (essentially the same as EMA but for over 18s), i applied for it at enrolment at the start of september, after a long wait i got a letter back saying i'm entitled but no NOE. when i eventually got through on the helpline they told me to just take the letter into college reception. i've done that and still nothing. they owe me 7 weeks now and counting. i'm on half term next week and have had no help with transport costs! luckily i have friends and family supporting me but i'm struggling now, and there are people on my course not coming in because they can't afford travel. it's a really intensive course so they're missing out on loads of important stuff.

it's so ridiculous, government supposedly put education as a priority and then leave people in the lurch. i don't have a job at the moment, i live 8 miles from college so have to travel quite a bit and i always need materials for my course so things are extremely tight financially at the moment. i'm going to write to my MP as a poster suggested above, i really hope the company responsible get thrashed! hope everyone gets sorted out soon :)
  • Well at long last DD got most of her money owed today, so she has paid me and her little sister back now and has got some money to spend :j (me too though her sister has just brought home a letter from school for a trip £122!!! so I know just what thats going towards  )

I have just given her a lecture on budgeting, taking into account that she is going to the Trafford Centre next month to do some Christmas shopping and things she needs for college plus day to day things.

Is EMA paid out doing half terms/other holidays? I don't think it is.
