  • HI, Does anyone know how to get out of a virgin contract early? Or at least change to a lower tarrif. I'm in 18 month contract, with 12 monthes half price. When I bought it the Car Phone Wharehouse guy said i could change my tarriff after 12 monthes, but i went in the other day, and now he's saying virgin changed their mind and i can no longer change it and have to pay silly prices for the last six monthes and he can't do anything about it?

pls does anyone have any ideas?

    cheers

@the_skint_minx - you don't say what you are paying and what you currently use minutes / texts wise but:

if you're an online customer then the cheapest option is online 50 (50 xnet anytime mins and 500 texts) at £19 per month.

if you're not an online customer then it's o2 100 (100 xnet anytime mins / 100 texts) at £25 per month (another £5 buys a 100 text bolt on)

if the xnet anytime minutes aren't a factor then Leisure Time Plus gives you 1000 off peak mins and 100 texts for £20 (bolt on applicable here for extra texts too)

I'm almost positive they won't let you switch between high street and online tariffs but you don't know till you ask.

I've just discovered that Phones 4 U will break your existing contract and pay it off for you if you have six months or less to go. I did this yesterday, with six months left on a Vodafone contract but a faulty phone. I went into the Phones 4 U shop and the guy offered me a choice - I could send the phone back to Vodafone to be fixed or let him pay off my existing contract and sign me up for a new one with Orange (keeping my number and on a better value tariff). I walked out of the shop with my old faulty phone, a shiny new phone on Orange and £90 in my purse (the value of the remainder of my Vodafone contract)!!
    :T
Same experience I went to Phones 4U this Sunday they mention they will buy out my contract if I downgrade it. However they convince me to sign a 18 month contract with o2 500 £35each month and the first 6 months double mins.
Dont think it is a good deal.
The phone I can have for free is D800 N70 or V3i

    Please, can anyone help me?
I purchased the NEC e616V December 2004 under a 3 pay special offer.

After six months I was contacted by their customer services department and offered a replacement phone because of all the complaints that they had received. I accepted a replacement phone and told them that I was not happy with 3 pay.During this conversation there was no mention of a change of contract by the service centre personnel. The call, from them, was unsolicited and there was no way I would have agreed to a change of contract because I was unhappy with the service and “3 pay” which I had signed up for.

I now understand I am several months into a new 18 month contract.

I have written 3 times to the customer services department and only received a stock reply.

My dissatisfaction with the service provided is total and I consider my contract null and void because of the misrepresentation of a contract change by suggesting a replacement phone.

I am refusing to pay the monthly fee and the severance costs which I consider to be day light robbery.

Can any one help me to resolve this dilema?
  • My (student) daughter has just been charged over £30 by T-Mobile as her monthly direct debit payment failed. I did the 'bank of Mum and Dad' thing and phoned T-mobile and paid her bill (cost me an extra £3 for the privilage!). At no time did the 'lovely chap' from T-mobile mention the failed d/d fee and this has just appeared on the next bill.

My question is......does anyone know whether she can claim back this charge as 'unlawful and unfair' in the same way people are now doing with their banks?

The Halifax bank have also charged her a massive £39 failed direct debit fee and a further £28 as this caused her account to go overdrawn without authorisation! (she is claiming back these charges from the Halifax after reading your advice on this site).

All in all, this genuine oversight on her part has cost her close to £100 !!

my son is in an 18m contract with t-mobile flext 35 tariff , and he thought he was web'n'walk on the mobile but when the first bill - 128 , came he had been charged for using the internet as well as being charged for web'n'walk ,it seems it takes a month for web'walk to go on the mobile!!
t-mobile disconnected the phone , re-connected it while it went to dispute then re-disconncted it they reduced the bill to 85 , but even though he's not been able to use the phone for the last month but they have sent a bill today for 136.05 !! , is there any way he can get out the contract without paying the 500 cancellation charge? surely they can't charge for a service they have not provided?

update 2nd july.... son has now had phone cut off by T-mobile

Hi,I originally signed up through Car Phone Warehouse for two 12 month money back contracts....it wasn't until the 11th month I had realised that I had to send them copies of my bills to redeem the cheque backs.
A quick phone call and copies were re-issued and the correct address obtained to send my claim to.I received a text to say that my claim was being processed and should recieve the cheques within 30 days.
I had a call from CPW customer services offering me a free handset upgrade-keeping the same tarrif....I aggreed and a NEW contract was issued.
One month and a couple of days later...still NO cheques....several national rate phone calls later and they re-issued the cheques(taking 5-6 working weeks!!!)....nearly two months later and the cheques still haven't arrived.
I 've e mailed them threatning legal action reguarding the money owed....but I want to get out of the contracts I'm bound to for another 9 months...is there anyway I can stop paying them legaly because the defaulted on my original contracts?
  • Can anyone help!!!!!

I signed up to a 12 month mobile contract with 'Just3g'.

I thought this contract would save me (and other customers money), as it was a cash back deal and if done correctly would work out to be £0.00 for 12 months but as it stands will be over £30 a month.

I have returned the cash back vouchers on time with the correct info to 'Just3g' but I have not received any cash back.

I have tried emailing and phoning the company. Their website claims its under repair (for 7 months), no email correspondance and when I phoned them up on their 0870 number everything was on a loop!!!

    * Should I bite the bullet and cancel my direct debit, although I am in my 10th month and loose about £300?

    * How would I go about reclaiming the money as I can not contact them. Small claims court?

    * I believe that 'Just3g' have been so bad they have been on watch dog. What was the outcome? Does the company just fold and take all the money leaving average people to pay the price?

    * Martin Lewis - What advice do you have for this growing problem?

    Regards - Elliot Veale:mad:
