This is why I urge people to start a Paypal claim straight away before the seller has a chance to do this. Remember it usually takes 5-7 working days to withdraw funds from a Paypal account into a bank account. If the seller receives enough claims before the withdraw is complete Paypal will reverse it so the seller can’t run off with your money.
To make comments like this is unhelpful. Freightsearch offer insurance that’s not valid, because of this I’ve lost £100. I’m trying to advise people based on my own experience so they also don’t lose money as well. What happens if someone takes out extra insurance with Frieghtsearch, for £1000, because of your recommendation. If DHL lose the parcel the customer will then lose £1000. You should take this seriously because you have a responsibility to give helpful advice.
My opinion is when your running a business you should look at the long term. If your paying unrealistic prices for worldwide delivery this is not going to help you long term. Short term it’s great because you make extra cash by targeting a new international market but long term you will be “left in the lurch with no viable delivery service” which may result in damage to your reputation. Start off paying realistic delivery prices with a realistic profit margin & you will be able to maintain international sales long term without being left in the lurch.
It’s hypercritical really because on one hand your saying that we need a open market to keep the costs down & on the other your blaming the likes of PPWexpress & other rogue resellers for the £9+ prices we’re paying now. Lets not forget you recommended two rogues, PPWexpress & Direct Parcel distribution, who went under with people’s money. You’re now recommending another rogue reseller, Freightsearch, who are offering invalid insurance.
There are enough legitimate resellers to keep the market open and competitive without having to take risks. As a general rule they will accept Paypal as a payment method. At the moment you’re hardly recommending any of these resellers even though they have low prices & good reputations. Apart from Freightsearch your actually recommending companies that are charging more than the big fish so how’s that going to benefit the consumer.
Armitage is the most trusted person here with NO DOUBT! We wouldn't have this forum without him!
Don't spam creditcrunchy and promote your company somewhere else!!!0 -
I agree ArmitageShanks is trustworthy & deserves a lot of respect for the time he gives to this forum. This doesn't mean I shouldn't question his advice & recommendations. Don't forget this forum is for everyone to share their experiences & recommendations not just Armitage + friends. He's recommending Freightsearch as the company to use if you want extra insurance & that's dangerous. I've found from experience the insurance is invalid. My point is why take a risk with Freightsearch when you can use other more reputable companies.0

Yeah, that's so hard to do it *never* happens...Hell, I've done it without even trying to.
Using your CC directly though, and as I'm sure most are aware the CC company are, by law, jointly liable for any loss to you and therefore much more likely to help see you refunded. They're also not '£"$~@X%&!ers.0 -
Remember my collection for delivery to Ireland (South) that I posted about above? FreightSearch were the only reseller I found advertising collection on 30th December 2008, and also a quicker delivery time so I booked in with them despite being more expensive.
Parcel not collected, waited in all day, emailed and no response within reasonable amount of time. Then when I did get a response I was told that DHL "just informed them that no collections if booked after 2pm on 29th December and that I could have a refund etc if I wanted".
Well I emailed FreightSearch to take them up on their offer of a full refund - no reply!
Left in the lurch again I didn't know whether to book the collection with another reseller for Friday 2nd January 2009, but then I thought well just my luck I would do that and then they would come expecting two parcels etc.
Well guess what, parcel collected morning of Friday 2nd January 2009!
When I spoke to the driver he said that they were not working over Christmas at all, so collection would have been 100% impossible, they knew about this well in advance - so so should FreightSearch!
I have emailed FreightSearch again but surprise surprise no reply!
I feel that this was a sneaky ploy by FreightSearch to pick up custom from after Christmas that they normally wouldn't have had, by advertising collection dates that they knew couldn't be fulfilled.0 -
Under section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act, if you pay for goods/service on your credit card which you do not receive and are worth more than £100 then you can claim the money back from your card issuer. You may struggle to chargeback payments less than £100 so it's not much use when paying for parcel deliveries.
The best option is to pay via Paypal with a credit card. The key to success is to start a claim at the first sign of trouble so the sellers funds are frozen before they have a chance to withdraw it to a bank account. If this is done early even if the seller is in the process of withdrawing funds this can be reversed if enough claims are made.
If this fails & Paypal are unable to recover funds from the seller then try & start a chargeback. Your credit card company will help you even if you have started a Paypal claim. Be aware they may not help for payments less than £100.
My advice is stick to paying via Paypal with a credit card but act fast if a problem occurs. Paypal seems to protect the buyer more than the seller so take advantage of it.0 -

Has anyone used Shiply.com?
I send large heavy furniture items and have up till now been using the larger DHL service that used to be available and Palletline for the very large items.
I have put a few things up and so far am impressed with prices.0
