Are we as a society basically broken?

Since it was the kiling of a chap that had gone to help someone, that started this thread off, I was just wondering?

Obviously the 'papers' have to be carefull about what they print but how many of us feel that these crimes are being carried out by White/Brits?

I DO NOT wish to see this thread closed down for racist reasons so please let's not overstep the mark, but is it the opinion of most of us that it is the 'visitors' that are causing the problems or is it the original inhabitants & their offspring?

I did voluntary work for 5 years Phire, helping train diseffected young people. Young people, had you seen them in a group in the street, you would have crossed the road and avoided eye contact. One to one, when they dont have to show bravado in front of their peers, they come across as lost, confused and frightened.

If people are interested in helping the young diseffected, contact your local Youth workers or NCH - you can be mentors, trainers, or just befrienders to kids who have often never had a stable relationship with an adult in their lives. And the majority of them DO want to get on, have a good job, a stable relationship but they have no guidance in doing this.

It would appear that it was Good Old British Locals, who did not like being told to stop attacking an immigrant, that then kicked the banker to death.

I am fed up with the insidious racism that seeks to blame our ills on others. I am sure others can find stories where immigrants have attacked locals and so on to prove their point - but I will still prefer to believe in a fair society, treating all others equally regardless of sex, religion, colour, etc.

The story doesnt make sense mewbie. It says he helped a defenceless youngster and his girlfriend who were in a taxi queue. Then it gives the victim as a 35 year old homesless Lithuanian with a 45 year old girlfriend who were walking with a dog?? It doesnt say the fight involved local Brits?

I would add that I live in that area and the tensions are building up because of the immigration which appears to have no control. My own son was beaten up by a group of 9 "grown men" who were from overseas - they were drunk and assaulted his girlfriend - when he stood up for her he was beaten virtually senseless by them all - cctv showed 3 of them kicking his head at the same time. Needless to say the police shrugged their shoulders and said "they just disappear when we go to look for them".

My own hairdresser was saying to me that she and a friend went out for the evening and were assaulted by foreigners - they refused the guys advances and were spat on by them. Now, isnt that assault? Is it worth complaining to the police - of course not - but it does show what they felt for these two young women.

Its this attitude that is causing a backlash all over the country. (and I would add, it doesnt actually say who the perpetrators were in that BBC report - there are a lot of gang fights between different groups of immigrants). And whilst, absolutely, we have plenty home grown problems - lets not allow pc to blind us to what is happening in our home towns and even villages now.

Well hethmar, you prove my point. Over the last few days on here I have noticed the low level immigrant rumblings and I find it sickening. I was going to stop posting as a result but this poem always seems apt.

"In Germany, they came first for the Communists, And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Communist;

You see, I know, as an intellectual liberal lefty, that my type isn't particularly liked either by the Good Old British Boys.

Well mewbie I think the point of that poem is that we should speak up - not be fearful/ pc about everything and to stand up to wrong doing, whoever may be the perpetrator?.

I cant see how I proved your point? You gave the info re the news report which contradicted itself and it did not say brits were responsible but you decided they were - isnt that a prejudice?

I simply read the news report.

Here's a quote from it
"Norfolk Police arrested three locals aged in their early 20s on Tuesday, and began questioning them"

From other sites...
"Police said last night that three men - all in their early 20s and from the Norwich area - had been arrested. "

More...
"Police said he intervened when he saw thugs attacking a homeless Lithuanian man and his girlfriend"

I draw my conclusion from that, and as is the way with these things, you draw your own. At least we know which side of the fence we both stand on.

I dont stand on any side of a fence - I try to be fair and logical.

If it says these people are "local" that simply means they live in the area, doesnt it. You have jumped to the conclusion that they are Brits because it serves your purpose. Isnt this as bad as others jumping to conclusion that explosions of crime in areas where there are large number of immigrants is due to them.

The report had already incorrectly said this was a young couple standing in a queue being attacked by a group of grown men. Then that they were 35/45 year olds and the perpetrators were 20 year olds. The article is obviously poorly researched and written and cannot be used to prove a point either way.

I am being honest - that there is tension in this area - burying our heads in the sand about the obvious truth would be just what the above poem is saying we shouldnt do. At 10.30 p.m. the other night I had 2 overseas people knock on my door trying to sell me poorly printed paintings - supposedly their own work (Id seen the same set last month with 2 other salesmen). When I said I didnt want any - they said then give us some money anyway. I closed the door on them and heard the door being kicked before they went off. I have never experienced this with home grown door to door hawkers when I have refused to buy something.
