pants just lost all my post when my battery died !!!

well im back anyway - my daughter killed my laptop about 6 weeks ago but i now have a new one
i have still been running - albeit on my cushy treadmill ;)
however im not very happy with my progress
i ditched robert over his choice of music - i have been using some fabulous podcasts of music i found online - did post the links on here before

i am just not seeing any consistency - some days i run for 10 mins some 15 some 20 but others i struggle to get to 5
i normally do 5 mins warm up 10/12 mins run 5 mins recovery and aim for 8 more mins run but is often just 5 then 5 min cool down
its always 30/35 mins and is 3 or 4 times a week
when i do a 20 min run it feels so good but then the next time i feel so bad when i can only manage 10
in the new year i think i need to get back to robert despite his choice in music
cant believe im still doing this 10 weeks on !!

happy fit new year all xx
Perhaps your jogging bottoms are bad luck too

I ran today in my other pair, and it was fine! I really enjoyed the run, too.

lol i have some lovely workout clothes so not that but i have been thinking about carbs - im a regular on the low carb thread as i do follow a low carb diet - well when it isnt christmas that is

ive been eating this way for 2 and a half years now and have always had enough energy to do lots of classes and gym work before but have never tried running before now

will try and keep a closer eye on things but early indications show i run better in the afternoon than the morning however i prefer to do my exercise in the morning - am sure this is linked to food intake ........

    CALLING ALL ROBERT FANS!

with his podcasts, does he follow the same couch to 5k plan that running made easy uses (ie week 1 is run 1 min, walk 3 mins (x3, giving a 16 min session). i downloaded his podcasts once but never really did anything with them as i didnt care much for his choice in music. they were on my hard drive that corrupted. i cant decide whether to download them again or just use the stopwatch on my sports watch along with tunes on my mp3 player

I don't know what plan Running Made Easy uses, but this is Robert's plan in words which might be easier to compare.

I found it was really helpful having the music for the early runs. It would have annoyed me too much faffing with a stopwatch. For the longer runs it's not so bad, but you can't really get into it if you're clock watching.

    cheers juno.

that is slightly different. question is, which would i prefer

    RME's run 1m, walk 3m, run 1m, walk 3m, run 1m, walk 3m

    or robert's run 1m, walk 1m 30s x6

looking at the plans as a whole, on robert's there seem to be some big jumps in what you are expected to be able to run, whereas RME stick to a steady run 1m, walk 2m pattern and simply add in a repitiiton week on week for the first few weeks. from that perspective i think its RME easy all the way for me. ease myself in gently and all that jazz

I think it depends where you're starting from. Robert's plan does sound a bit harder, so if you're really unfit or unsure then running made easy might be better for you. But Robert's plan is possible, as loads of us have followed it already!

Fantastic thread, so many inspiring posts in here.

Although I have never been a runner (a few seconds on the beach during winter breaks [in Australia!] has been all i can ever do), I am going to start using the podcasts and have already set my timetable for next week, Monday Wednesday and either Sat or Sun, depending on what I'll be doing on the weekend.

It's going to be a big year for me, like a lot of you, I am really keen to get fitter and reduce my dress size, and after reading these posts, I'm motivated to get up and get out there! Exercising, budgeting, learning new things.
    New year, new me!!!

    Hey Sarsief,

Welcome! I started running a couple of months or so ago, originally for weightloss and toning, and I love it now, so much so that if I don't get my 'fix' I get quite jittery!! :rotfl:

I remember my first run, keep at it, it does get easier, and you will find that sometimes you're not moving as fast as you'd like and others you're going swimmingly... just remember to keep at it and the rewards will be yours.

If you have any questions at all, then feel free to ask, someone will most likely know the answer or be able to point you in the right direction! And well done for starting to make a difference for yourself!

All the best and see you around on here!

    Eph xx

Blimey, I joined this thread 19th October, and can now run 30 mins solid (well, jog!) and usually really run for the last minute.

Wow. A long way from 1 minute's running being a killer. In 11 weeks.

Am starting to increase the intensity as well, by putting a gradient on the treadmill, then when the gradient is equivalent to road running, the speed goes up...

Ultimate aim is to regularly run 10k.

    That will do me...! :)
