)

I've started this too..infact just this morning! Just done week 1, run 1.
I used to love running, got quite good, was comfortable running 8miles in a session (with a couple of minute brisk walks thrown in there along the way) Then stopped to have a baby. Baby is 3 months old now and I have 2 stone to lose so I'm starting again, from the beginning. I've even inspired my 12 year old daughter to do it too! At the moment I'm doing it on my treadmill but the plan is to take it outside once warmer weather arrives.
Anyone know how many cals each session burns up please? My treadmill computer is dodgy..tells me my session this morning used up 65 cals!..must be wrong??!love my little man he is amazing :j0 -
Congratulations PepPop for getting W1D1 done today.
Hi Helen81 congratulations on your arrival last year and welcome to the thread.
I'm on week 3 now, after I finish work i will be off to the gym to see how i get on with the first workout. I'm dreading the 3 minute run - seems really long! As opposed to you Helen81, I'm not a brilliant runner and have always admired anyone who could run more than 1 minute!
As for how many calories, well i'm not sure about you but I'm not running very fast but both week1 and week 2 (according to the treadmill) i was only burning around 110 calories. But i'm guessing that all depends on how fast you run, the incline and how much you weigh?? I'm 5'3"ish and weight about 9.5 stone. I hope this is helps!!

Just stumbled on this thread. Definetely going to try this although my OH isn't keen on me running in the dark. Can't really do it through the day as I have an 8 month old lol.
Don't really want to wait to the lighter nights are in :mad:0 -

The plan I have meant I walked at a brisk pace for 25mins - I did it on the treadmill with an incline of 1 and speed 4 and I burnt 160 calories in 25 mins (it doesn't ask for height or anything so I take it that's just a general amount)
Nikki my OH's the same - no way he'll let me run round our streets at night, so it's the treadmill in the gym for me.
There was a post on here before about using a treadmill and that you should use it at a certain incline to simulate running outdoors - can anyone let me know what the incline should be please?0 -
I always thought it was 1.5%, but I'm not really a treadmill runner, so may be way off.
In terms of calories, it's quite personal, based on your weight. Have a look at something like this for guidance:

(apparently I burnt 1300 cals at lunch - go me!)0 -
Ok, well I managed week 3 day 1. I did finish it but I really did start getting shin splints about half way into the routine...
Anyone have any ideas on how to remedy shin splints?

In terms of how to fix them, I'm afraid rest is pretty much the best way - a week or so off and they'll be good as new. I read something saying that ice baths *might* work, but I wouldn't be rushing to try it...They're normally a sign that you're pushing too hard too fast, so maybe do week 2 a couple more times before moving up to week three.
In terms of prevention, buying some sorbothane insoles to go in your runners really seems to be a good investment - I've not had shinsplints since I bought mine and used to struggle with them quite a lot...0 -
Gops - I'm not an expert in any way but I'm sure I've read somewhere that if you get shin spints it's to do with your shoes not giving you enough support and cushioning (I can say that I had problems with my knees and got new shoes and my knees are great now.)0
