Livingston Council Test site in West Lothian.
Has any one experience of it and if so advise?.0 -
Id just like to point out, it may no longer be law.
I rang northamptonshire council and they said "This is not a service we offer anymore, since 1990".
So, no Council MOT for me >:-{0 -

Hi
Just to say after reading Martin's article on Council Mot's.
I had a Pre Mot at my local garage and they said it would fail on a weaping PAS unit which would cost around £400 to put right.
I booked my car into my nearest council Mot centre which is about 30 minuets from my home, they tested my car and passed it saving me £400!
I must admit, I do not think I would have bothered to go a council Mot centre let along even thinking about it (I don't think many people do).
I times seem to be hard for some, but it does beg a question "Are the garages looking to find work on your car to keep them in work?"
Thanks again0 -
So are you happy that the poor council MOT tester failed to spot such an obvious vehicle defect? What else did he miss? They should stick to keeping the bin wagons limping along.0

Just took my car to MOTSTOP in High Wycombe. Not council run but only do MOTs not repairs.
Had an offer so £39 and car passed first time! Never had a car pass first time although all have seemed fine to me. So pleased I followed the advice and tracked down this place.0 -

39.00 is more expensive to where I go. My mot cost is only 25.00 and my garage is fair. I'm based in North London.0 -

Hi, I'm really dissapoited that you reccomend "council" mot stations are better because they only do mot's. As all mot testers I am trained and regulated by VOSA, they tell the tester what the vehicles minimum mot standards are and reguarly spot check us. They also state what equipment we use and have to register the calibration certificates twice a year, so a main dealer, council or indipendant test station have no better testing methords or equipment than eachother. I currently work for an agency, MOT testing in devon and cornwall, my current placement is at Halfords Auto Care and I can say with my hand on my heart that none of the test centres Ive worked at have asked or given any insentive to fail any vehicle that didn't need failing on there own merit.0

My husband has been in the trade over 50 years and has tested for over 40 years, he built up a very reputable business and he has customers come to here from miles away because he is good at what he does.
Don't assume all garages are the same, yes there are some disreputable garages out there you have to find someone you can trust!
i agree...i go to centre point garage in atherstone warks and i have passed my past two MOTs. A good honest garage is hard to find though.0
