I freeze pretty much anything that's leftover, I've got nothing to lose if it doesn't come out ok when defrosted as it would have been thrown away otherwise.
I suppose you do need to obtain extra stocks of takeaway plastic tubs...
anything frozen that doesnt look edible could be added to fried mashed potatoes and cabbage and passed off as bubble and squeek :rotfl:???
That said i'm actually not a bad cook! was a chef years and years ago...:EasterBun Sanity, Something I look forward to having :spam:

Hi Purplevamp - The sausage maker/mincer was about £70 I think but I got it as an xmas pressie from OH the other year (he knows me so well:rotfl: ) I buy the skins online, they aren't very much and last ages. Sausage making is guaranteed to bring about lots of laughter especially when you are first learning how:D0

made sausages years ago but never turned out well - i don't put enough fat in and i hate fat... eaten in a few greasy spoons over the years and you should see the looks i get when i'm watched by truckers as i trim every miniscule piece of fat off the bacon... its almost surgical!:EasterBun Sanity, Something I look forward to having :spam:

Wow, it was mega windy yesterday so I feel a branch gathering day coming on
And then it's off to SILs to get fed for free :j
I have DS2 and DIL coming for the weekend so I will make a big lasagne for lunch tomorrow. And DS1 and DIL will be joining us for Sunday lunch. I already have a chicken in the freezer and plenty of extras plus an apple crumble I made when I gathered all the apples a couple of weeks ago.
Called in the local Co-op last night to see if there were any last minute bargains (there weren't) and nearly fell over when I saw how much butter has gone up  It was £1.05 for the cheapest block
I will be doing a search for cheaper supplies and stocking up.Mum's Memory of the Day
Mum always had time to play with us when we were growing up. She played cards, Ludo, Scrabble and Monopoly. She built Lego houses. She drew "Princesses". She taught me how to draw horses. She taught me how to sew, cook, knit and crochet.
The house was always untidy but I think Mum had her priorites right.0 -

soooo pleased to hear I'm not the only one thinks there are more important things in life than h/work!!!
though now my youngest is 17, I should probably make more of an effort to keep on top of it I suppose :confuse:Cheryl0 -
Good morning to all and special welcome to Cornishfens - I'm guessing by your username that you now live around the place I moved from a few years back and BOY! Is it flat, or wha?! :rotfl: I'll get your name added to the list on post one asap (before you change your mind
).
The gale force winds have brought down plenty of branches about here, too, Janey. Pity I hadn't moved house yet. Unfortunately, the high winds also took out the windows of the rickety outhouse here, so OH2B had to clear up the broken glass that had landed all over the footpath. No more damage that I can see, so far, other than the Buddleia (sp?) growing from the wall has been snapped right off and was lying across the bird table. The picnic table got wrecked ages ago, so any extra damage doesn't count.
Washing's out, as the sun has now decided to shine but there is such a 'bite' in the air that I'd believe it if the weatherman said to expect sleat or snow! We've now had to switch on the heater on the top floor as being able to see your breath is just not on - I'll cut back even further on something else before I'll freeze to death. And for all of you who are now meter watchers, (I've been one for a long while), we are up to about 40 units PER DAY here and there isn't a single thing I can do about it.
Hope you all have a good day and that the sun's shining wherever you are. I'm off to catch up with work again, only one more week until invoicing and then it's payday as soon as anyone decides to pay me. :rotfl:I reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.
Frugal living challenge - living on little in 2025 while frugalling towards retirement.0 -
*Hangs head in shame* Forgive me, Frugal Mother Nyk, for I have sinned in thought....
It's half term here and we promised DS that we would take him to a theme park (birthday treat). I did all the right things and allocated entry money to a savings account a while ago. But I nearly didn't buy the tickets online as I shockingly thought, 'Oh well, it's only a £2 discount on each ticket - that's not much compared to the ticket cost.'
It's still £8 altogether though. I have bought the tickets with the discount now, having searched in vain for further discounts.
Have I learned nothing at all over the past year?
Sophiesmum, thanks for showing us your sausage *wink*
Cornishfens, welcome.
Everyone else, hullo.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -
Whitewing - some times even the most frugal of us need a treat. I have paid full price for a couple of tickets to see a musical for dd and I as our Christmas treat. we both love musicals, so can't wait.
I do apologise to everyone for my lack of involvement. My job just now is taking me out of the house for 11 hours and I feel like I am constantly chasing my tail.
I am off just now with a broken foot, so will catch up on my challenge. I calculated wrongly initially, so going to take time to go back over the bank statements and get it right for whole year. I had far too many things in.
What is next year's challenge. i think I have missed any discussion -sorry:o0
