I ordered the clock from Carbon creditz, will make a good prezzie for one of my gadget loving friends at Christmas.
It's good news about my Icesave money, payouts starting mid November so now I can relax about it all! Yay!Live on £11k in 20110 -

My HA sent me 4 energy saving lightbulbs in the post. How random! Not complaining though
Just wish they would send someone round to fit double-glazing whilst they are at it :hmm:

Hi Lynne,
Not sure of prices exactly but I have seen second hand reconditioned ones in a games shop, do you know the place where they sell lots of games for consoles etc? Also if you have one of those shops which will buy things like that and sell them on. Maybe be a bit cheaper? Or maybe on Ebay?

Thanks LMMS,
I know the shop you mean, there is one near me so I will have a look there.

I went to google austerity eating too, and wished I hadn't....yuk.
I don't know what you found (dread to think!) but what I mean is OS cooking with basic ingredients and making things go a long way, as in the Austerity period after world war 2 - when they made everything stretch as far as it would go....'Whatever you dream you can do, begin it. What sorts of things do you make Redglass, do you use wartime cookery books for it?

Well, the semolina pudding is one example, and using offal is another. Spinning out the meat with veg, or spuds or other padding. Porridge. Soups. Making jams (though I fell down there - I was too busy to collect much from the hedgerows this year). And yes....I have used wartime cookbooks! I had to do some research on rationing and cooking and I got a copy of Marguerite Patten's 'Victory Cookbook.' Some of it is usable, some of it's just grim (oatmeal soup, anyone?). Most of the recipes taste bland because of the lack of herbs and flavourings, but you can spice them up. Crumble is a wartime recipe and still a favourite with many people...and Vinegar Cake is still sold by our local WI in their market and is very tasty.

I like liver but haven't eaten it for years. maybe when I am eating meat again I'll make liver and bacon with onions and nice gravy. Yum!! Now, vinegar cake sounds a bit dodgy, but I'll believe that it tastes nice. I think we will need to go back to wartime eating if the media have their way, I've just watched the news and 20mins was dedicated to the recession, how depressing!!!

Got my gas bill today: my average daily gas usage has dropped from the previous quarter and the same quarter this time last year. Only obvious difference I can think of, between this qutr just gone and the summer is I haven't used the hob so much since getting the remoska.
I await the electric bill with interest with reduced oven use. Picked up 2 11watt energysaving lightbulbs for 98p from B&Q today. Need 2 more to complete the hse then need to find some cheap screw in ones rather than bayonet cap for the lights we read by in the front room.I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once0
