Just been making another frugal xmas present. Tonights is for my aunt and uncle, they are a pain to buy for, rolling in money, use expensive smellies, don't have any hobbies etc, BUT they do like buying stuff at farmers markets, local deli etc, and love Grouse whisky so thought they could have some of my preserves in a basket.
Decided to get aunt and uncles basket finished tonight.
Couldn't decide what else to put in but had a rummage in storecupboard and found some double choc cookies and some cracked pepper and sea salt crackers which i thought would look okay without the boxes.
These are contents I ended up with;
cookies and crackers
Home made orange marmalade
HM lemon marmalade
HM blackberry and apple jam
HM rhubarb jam
HM green tomato chutney
(last three made with home grown produce in summer:D )
Plus litre bottle of Grouse whisky which I won in raffle at work:D and happens to be their favourite.
I used a gift box for whisky that was bought in boxing day sales 60p and used brown parcel paper and ribbon to prettify the jars of preserves.:D
Arranged them all in the basket (recycled) with straw packing (recycled)
Lastly packaged with cellophane - the gift tag was removed from the bottle box:D
I am very happy with the result:j and hardly cost anything:D

Did anyone see Rich kid, poor kid?
Watching it now - I think the 'rich kid' might have gone to my school       Can't quite tell, but the S London geography and the uniform make me pretty confident.... That really brought it home & gave me lots to think about. For example, I instantly compared my family with Alice's and concluded that her family was much posher & richer than mine - my parents sent me to private school because they value academia and wanted to give me a good start in life (and obviously were lucky enough to be able to afford it!), whereas I would say that sending your kids to private school is more about social standing for Alice's parents. But why did I instantly make that comparison - aren't I just classfying her into a box in the same why she classifies 'chavs'? I'm actually too shocked by what she says to express much of an opinion at the minute! Can't quite believe that she holds those views... TBH, they're really her parents' views (she's only 15) which was pretty obvious from the film, though I'm not convinced by her change of heart at the end; she's just saying what she thinks we want to hear.
I'm genuinely appalled - I really hope I'm wrong about the school! I was always acutely aware of how fortunate I was to be there and I always figured everyone else thought the same, rather than having this sense of superiority which Alice hasI'm sure she and her family (especially the mother) will be regretting the film now.
Thanks for drawing it to my attention, bails.Live on £4000 a Year Challenge member

Hi everyone. Reading through, the last couple of days seem to have been better for most but hugs to those that need them
Wow sophiesmum - another amazing basket:T You have inspired me to do basket gifts next year (well maybe not the HMjams, I don't want to poison anyone!) Thanks for the inspiration!!
In light of all the stockpiling talk and the fact that the MrM offer is on and also MrS kindly sent me about 10 weeks worth of £4 off £40 spend vouchers I have decided to join in the stockpiling fun. I need to concentrate on stuff that I won't use faster just because it's there though - so wine is out:D
Think I will start with washing powder/bleach etc. At worst it will mean I do a bit more cleaning. This place could certainly do with it!0
