    eek

Decided to make a decision (if that makes sense!) on kitchen - to tart or not to tart ;). Decision made - not to tart.
Further decision made - to buy a new one _pale_.
The whole think looks 'tired' - it's 13 years old & I've never really liked it. I would have been happy with new worktop, tiles, sink & floor, but having looked closely at the units, some of the doors are starting to go. I did price up a quick 'make over', replacing doors etc. but that came to over 2k which is not worth it to make do.
The kitchen is not that big and the layout is fairly restricted but I've managed to improve it slightly on paper. Also want to add a few units and replace one in utility room. Have priced up one I like and with units, thick worktop, sink & appliances it is just over 4k which is not too bad (& I think there may be £600 to come off that). However I want to go to Howdens and price them up there. Then need to price up wall tiles (what I want are very plain but I suspect expensive), floor tiles and lights (they will be cheap). Then find someone to fit it, plus replaster where I am not replacing tiles, replaster ceiling & paint room. Etc etc. I did set myself an absolute ceiling of 10k, so this should be well under, but I may well go for dearer units. The ones I've seen are B&Q, need to research it but did have a B&Q kitchen before & it was great.
I know this is not in the same realms as others but tbh I don't think the house warrants a 15k - 20k kitchen.

I refuse to look at the impact this will have on paying off the mortgage as if I do I'll end up doing nothing :o

I blame TPA, she started it all :rotfl:

    Never mind blaming someone else.

£10k for a kitchen refurb - hve you lost your marbles woman. "the kitchen's not that big" - well look at the economy and what's going on. Can't give kitchens away apart from the gullible who come along occasionally.

Get a grip GG. or in other words (?) GG .... GG

  • GG, my advice for what its worth.....we got B&Q to come out and price up for us. Was a rediculous cost when they included their fitting, but the units were very reasonable and come in different heights too. Anyway, play it cool...they kept ringing us and I told them we were considering going elsewhere, got a very nice discount eventually. Also Quidco have a 15% voucher off th Cooke and Lewis B&Q range at the moment.

Howdens units are great, especially as the carcuses(sp?) come ready made.

Well I might join you in the kitchen units but after OH's post I won't be joining you in the granite worktops :rotfl:

Did you go for the Solid Oak or Solid Oak Classic? I wanted something paler which means veneer or Solid Ash - current units are veneer & are only just starting to split now after 13 years - but if it's solid then it will just dent rather that chip when I chuck things at OH & miss :)

:o I admit when I saw a budget of £10k GG I went shockedSmiley.jpg ....but if the whole kitchen is getting gutted and redone then a ceiling budget of £10k I can see ........ almost..... :rotfl:but then I'm tight and almost had a heart attack when my kitchen came to £3k!

Hmmmm, did my OH put you up to that Sml :rotfl:. I was aware that 10k is a lot of money :o, but I work with 2 people who have each spent around 20k  on theirs so was probably over-estimating, forgetting how extravagent they had been.

Have got a fitter coming round Weds night, currently writing up Schedule of Works (can you tell I watch Property Ladder & Grand Designs :rotfl:). Would like new light switches but think I'd be pushing my luck......

Ok, fitter been. Got v confused :(. Too many options. But have made a decision I think. V pale wood, sparkly black matt worktops (don't bother posting to say it will scratch anyone, not listening ;)). Matt white tiles. Yet to be chosen floor tiles. I need to choose & buy tiles & appliances but all in, with fitting, tiling, painting, lights etc. will be around 7k. Cheaper to get this guy supplying solid units than get B&Q fitted, so am pleased.

Bit of a set back on MF front but hey ho, will just have to double efforts (says she, writing on her new 17" laptop ).

Losing pounds on all front - also on a diet & have lost 3lbs in 1st week :T.

    Hope all well :)
