I work actually....I had a serious operation in January but went back to work before I'd fully recovered because I was sick of being at home.

Funnily enough mousemousey99 you last post was the only one worth reading for the OP (in my opinion).

I'm a bit miffed at all the people on MSE who don't know how to do a CV, don't know how to spell, don't know how to handle their own affairs. The only people who deserve my tax money are those who are disabled or elderly.

Now I will await the usual....

Erm, you have joined this thread to defend the views of a young, and able-bodied, person who feels they should be able to claim benefits because they both work but have debts...?

Excuse me, I was asking for advice - I never said that, I said that I didnt know if I could claim or not, If you dont ask you wont know.

I hope it does all work out for you, and don't take too much for granted along the way.......

You asked if you could claim and then went on to say that others around you are claiming and they have nice flats...

And you are now saying you weren't feeling a little miffed that you are unable to claim anything?

    Yeah right!
  • What - Im not 'feeling miffed' at all. As for the nice flats, yes I did say that but I have a 3 bedroom bungalow so I really wouldnt want a flat - It was just what I said as an example. I came on here to ask for advice on whether I would be entitled to anything or not and I did get advice which I took and checked out the website. It said we werent entitled to anything, so now I know. I have just been on the HMR&C website and again, nothing. If however I didnt work we would be entitled to £675 in Working Tax Credit and if we had a child we would be entitled to the above plus £1640 in Child Tax Credit.

Maybe I worded my post wrong, but I was looking for advice.

You having my backing entirely Stacie.

Problem with some boards on MSE is that they are more or less a 'closed shop'. What I mean by that is you can only say what the regulars find acceptable - step out of line and, as you have seen, you get silly people telling you to go away.

I am similar to you in circumstances Stacie.

Just ignore the nasty posts - there are people who agree 100% with your view but don't post on here.

closed shop???regulars on here freely give advice on all manner of benefit related problems, personally i dont see where an income of 25k and debts of only 6k are that big a problem, like i said in an earlier post this aint the place to come and have a rant about what other people might or might not get.

My oh my some people really do shock me. I am on benefits *shock horror* but apparently thats ok because i am ill anyway when i was working and my husband stayed home to look after our toddler i was bringing home far less than £25k, my debts are higher than £6k and we didn't have to live on little money, we budgetted, we ate well, rarely went out and had a good life, obviously now we're on benefits through no choice of ours (i would rather be healthy and able to work!) we have had to budget more, prioritise our debts and we do now live on very little money but we're doing ok. I would like to know what a nice flat means?? I think my home is nice, we don't have a lot of stuff but its clean, we've painted everywhere and its homely. Lets face it, a tub of paint is £10 and would easily do a big room, it doesn't cost much to have a nice home!

Stacie i am guessing you're 20, why on earth are you already annoyed and jealous by people who live on benefits, you won't have been working long at all, like someone else said if you don't like the money you earn or the hours you do, look for something else. Been home all day isn't much fun, its even more depressing for an able bodied man like my husband who would love to go out to work but can't at the moment because he has to look after me and our child.

Life is too short to be envious of other people, count yourself lucky, you are the only one who can change the way your life goes and at 20 you have a lot of life left to live!

If your OH can't handle his debts or you can't manage on the money left over then speak to someone like CCCS who will make your debts more manageable.

I wouldn't rely on those figures though. The WTC figure looks way out

    Yes, I was thinking that!

Plus you have to be 25 to claim wtc, unless you have a child or disability.
