Average Speed Cameras?

The thing which annoys me about SPECS is when people are so intent on watching their speedo they don't notice the huge HGV sat a foot from their bumper who is really doing 50mph.
Or the biker in lane 3, who is desperate to pass them.0 -
Most annoying of all are the drivers who know they have either just joined or are about to leave the road. They can drive as fast as they like knowing they are free, yet you have to watch your speed waiting for the next camera on the carriageway.0

50mph on your car's speedo is probably closer to 46 or 47. If this is true then you can drive at 53-54mph without exceeding the speed limit. Then there will be the "fudge factor" applied by the speed camera operators which means anyone going slower than 55-57mph (60mph on your speedo) is unlikely to be prosecuted. If you have a GPS in your car that will be more accurate than your speedo.I was wondering if it was just me that found he was overtaken consistently when doing the limit all the way through a stretch of average cameras!0 -

of course this relies on your car under reading, i use different cars all the time with work but use the same tomtom, some can be 5 under at 70 some and be 5 over0 -
Specs on the M25 is currently disabled becuase all the signs are not in the Traffic Signs Manual (TSRGD 2002) and therefore not currently legal!
The signs either need to be replaced with legal type or an amendment to TDRGD0 -

I always thought it was illegal to have a speedo that over read as then you could be speeding without knowing it. I thought they always under read. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -
Anyone know if the SPECS cameras are variable??
I know certain motorways have variable speed limits linked to the speed camera on the rear of the gantry which the sign is on (M25).
The Avonmouth Bridge at Bristol for example has SPECS before and after with fixed 50mph signs on the approach and regular intervals on the side of the road.
Many times the smaller plasma signs are flashing with reduced limits of 40mph
Will this have an effect on the SPECS camera or are they happily still monitoring cars but only triggering over 50mph average?

The last time I went round the Heathrow stretch the cameras had gone from the gantries, it was rumoured that new digital cameras were coming but nothing last time I went round it.0

But if you do 1 minute at each speed then the average will be 50mph.Not true, actually. If you do 1 mile at 60 mph, that will take 1 minute. The next mile at 40 mph takes 1 min 30 secs. So that's a total of 2mins 30 secs for 2 miles, which works out to an average speed of (60/2.5 x 2) = 48 mph.Happy chappy0 -

probably is, but theres no really accurate way of testing it or at least a method that could get you out of a speeding ticket0
